Chapter 312: Changing Times. Godmother?
After having breakfast with her mother, Bibi Dong, Keli had to go to school. Nowadays, Spirit Hall had its own academy, including a kindergarten specifically for the children of high ranking officials. Not just anyone could enroll. Unlike in the past, the curriculum was no longer solely focused on combat but also included moral education, mathematics, science, biology, and more, ensuring that children received a well rounded education. It was now unheard of for high level soul masters to be illiterate.
"Little Meow, Keli is going to school now. You have to be good and stay here, okay?" With her little red schoolbag on her back, Keli spoke to the small spotted kitten curled up in its cat bed like a tiny adult. The kitten didn't even move, only flicking its tail as if responding.
Children's school schedules weren't too demanding. The world had changed drastically from the past. Back then, soul masters only cared about increasing their strength, fighting for power, and engaging in endless battles. From the moment they awakened their martial souls at age six, they were in a constant race to improve their cultivation, as if they would be decapitated the next second if they didn't grow stronger. High ranking soul masters relied on their power to act as they pleased, indulging in selfish and reckless behavior.
But now, things were different. Life had slowed down. What people once experienced wasn't living it was merely surviving. Ordinary citizens had to fight tooth and nail just to eat while also enduring oppression from nobles and soul masters. Sometimes, they would die from battles they weren't even involved in, not even knowing what killed them.
Now, life was truly worth living. No one had to starve, there was no more famine, and lawless criminals no longer ran rampant. In this new era, where everyone possessed soul power, soul masters no longer existed just for fighting. The idea of "waste martial souls" had been completely abolished. Every martial soul, no matter how simple be it a sheet of paper or a blade of grass had a purpose.
If it weren't for the looming threat of the Abyss, which could return at any moment, this era would seem like an absolute paradise, something unimaginable to the livestream viewers.
White Cloud City stood high in the heavens, and the gods themselves enforced the law.
In the past, laws meant nothing to nobles and soul masters. The notion that "princes and commoners alike are subject to the law" was nothing but a joke. It sounded good on paper, but in reality, the rules never applied to the powerful. No matter how many crimes they committed, high ranking soul masters and nobles would never face true consequences.
Now, things were different. No one dared to act recklessly just because they were strong. Slavery and human trafficking were strictly prohibited. If someone was caught engaging in such activities be they a Soul Saint, a Title Douluo, a noble, or even a god they would face unwavering legal judgment.
Unless one was a God King or had immense political backing, there was no escaping punishment. Unlike in the past, where laws were mere decorations, now even royal families had to follow them. There were no more cases where the very rulers engaged in human trafficking themselves.
The world was now a place of peace and order.
Keli was currently in the elementary school division. The modern education system followed a model of compulsory free education, where everyone could attend school. Instead of being divided by cultivation level, students were grouped by age:
Ages 6 12 – Elementary SchoolAges 13 16 – Middle SchoolAges 16 20 – High SchoolAges 20 22 – University
After completing university at age 22, students officially graduated. By this stage, they had learned everything an academy could teach. If they wished to advance further, they could join sects or organizations to receive specialized training and resources.
Of course, while everyone had soul power, talent still varied.
A normal person who graduated from university with a cultivation level of Soul Elder (Rank 30+) was already considered exceptional. With effort, they might reach Soul King (Rank 50+) in their lifetime. Those with weaker talent or less dedication might graduate as mere Grand Soul Masters (Rank 20+), with Soul Elder being their peak.
The livestream broadcasted Keli's perspective, occasionally cutting to glimpses of the academy and its cultural landscape. The viewers were stunned by the utopian society being shown.
[...]
A long silence.
Then, finally, someone spoke.
[Perhaps… Lord City Master's dream of "Everyone Can Become a God" isn't impossible after all.]
[Yeah… But how long will it take?]
[We probably won't live to see it.]
[Maybe the livestream will show it one day…]
[What would a world like that even look like?]
[I really hope I can see it…]
Many viewers fell into a philosophical daze, marveling at the sheer magnitude of change.
God Realm
The five God Kings also fell into silence.
They realized that this Douluo World had embarked on a completely different path compared to every other world under their rule.
In every other god controlled world, civilizations were trapped in endless cycles of tyranny and rebellion. A despot would rise, rule with an iron fist, and eventually be overthrown, only for the next ruler to become just as corrupt. "The hero who slays the dragon eventually becomes the dragon."
The ones who suffered were always the weak and powerless.
No one truly cared for the common folk. Rebellions were cloaked in noble rhetoric "for the people" and "for justice" but the moment the rebels won, they became the very oppressors they once fought against.
But this Douluo World was different.
The powerful at the top had built a system of law and order, ensuring that all people strong or weak were bound by the same rules. Laws protected the weak while restraining the strong from abusing their power.
The God Kings didn't know how to feel about this.
Would this system truly last?
For now, at least, it seemed to be working perfectly. Everyone had a chance. The world was no longer stagnant.
The five God Kings remained speechless, realizing that this world was something they had never seen before.
Back to the Video
Elementary school was relaxed. The schedule followed a five day school week, with two days off.
Today was Friday.
After class, Keli knew that she would have two days off starting tomorrow. She had originally planned to spend the weekend playing with Little Meow, but her mother suddenly informed her that they had plans.
"Mommy, where are we going tomorrow?" Keli asked while holding her kitten, assuming they were going on a fun trip.
"We're going to the Star Dou Forest," Bibi Dong replied with a smile, her expression slightly complex. "Keli, you've reached the age where it's time for you to form a Soul Contract with a spirit beast."
"Oh, we're going to Godmother's place?" Keli responded with understanding, nodding lightly.
The Livestream Exploded.
[Wait… What did she just say?!]
[Godmother?!]
[WHO is Keli's godmother?!]
[Holy crap, don't tell me it's who I think it is…]
[It HAS to be Silver Dragon King!]
[If that's true, then Keli's status is even higher than we thought!]
Viewers erupted with excitement, their minds racing to figure out the true identity of Keli's mysterious godmother.
