Chapter 1 - Prologue (Updated)

Several centuries ago, this world underwent a phenomenon that blessed humans with a supernatural power called an Aspect.

The year is now X774, where nearly twenty percent of humans were born with the blessing of an Aspect while the rest of the population remained powerless.

In this vast, seemingly magical world, there are five continents ruled by their own respective leader.

Heiwa, the vibrant, yet dauntless continent known for their mythical beasts and audacious adventurers that explore abandoned ruins and treacherous dungeons in pursuit of wealth, fame and power as experiencing exhilaration is more important than their own life.

Anaki, once deemed as the most beautiful continent in the world until a single man overthrew it into chaos, allowing his dream of destruction to flourish among it, creating a lawless land filled with chaotic beings who are possessed by their malicious desires as they terrorize the innocent, who stake everything on the line in order to live for tomorrow.

Yvelia, a more older continent in terms of technological advancement as it resembles the medieval times, but despite its lack of progress, Yvelia has its own charm, boasting some of the most powerful humans that this world has ever witnessed as Yvelia is a continent built on fighting for honor.

Owari, also known as the "Continent Of Beginnings" as it was the birthplace to the very first Aspector, but despite its title, nothing else is known about this continent as Owari is blocked off from the world, existing within a separate dimension that only a select few are able to access.

Lastly, Jiyu, a continent separated into three main realms consisting of Nobles, Commoners and Peasants as it is also the continent that I was born and raised on.

On the outside, Jiyu is known as the "Continent Of Freedom" but as a Peasant who was forced to witness the cruel reality of this world, that title is nothing but a delusional fantasy created by a lunatic.

Within Jiyu, resides a place called the Hero Association, an authoritative figure in society that houses Aspectors called "Heroes", who use their power to withhold the peace from "Villains", who are Aspectors that use their power for the sole purpose of creating chaos.

Heroes are glorified by many as they are admired and idealized for their power, achievements and courage for placing their lives on the line as they are known to even sacrifice themselves in order to save the innocent and protect the peace.

With the exception of Owari, Jiyu is known to have the least amount of Aspectors, which is why society reveres heroes as if they're gods, but despite what society chooses to believe, I refuse to accept them.

Heroes are far from pure as their insatiable hunger for power leads them into corruption, causing them to become beings that can't even be considered human anymore.

With their skewed perception of evil, they capture and kill anyone who disagrees with their injustice and despite the consequences of their actions, they are backed by the Hero Association, which is considered the highest authority within Jiyu with the exception of the Ten Noble Leaders and the King and Queen themselves.

Heroes are nothing but obedient dogs that obey orders from those above themselves and as long as they are aware of their place in the hierarchy, they are free to keep their status in society, regardless of atrocities they commit.

"The Continent Of Freedom" is nothing more than a delusion that society believes in as in reality, heroes only care for themselves as if you are an Unwanted—a human without an Aspect, or a Peasant, you are treated as a mere object, casted away by society once you are deemed as useless and as you slowly fade away into obscurity, you are forced to accept reality, despite the conditions as in order to survive in this world, the weak must rely on the strong.

Despite my hatred for heroes, there was a time when I used to dream of becoming a hero as growing up on the humble outskirts of Jiyu with my loving mother and father, there was a hero who I adored.

He was an upcoming hero who rose through the rankings like a shooting star, known as the "Hope Of Jiyu" as in my eyes, he truly deserved that title as he was the greatest example of a true hero, but on one of the days I was watching him on television, my father asked me a question.

"Rai, what do you believe the essence of being a hero is?"

Only once, my father asked me that question and at the time, I remember answering his question childishly, but as I grew up, I then realized the severity of his question as after that fateful day, I was never interested in becoming a hero anymore.

The hero I adored and the very thing that I dreamed of becoming had taken the lives of my parents right before me and in that moment, I sold my soul to vengeance and made a vow.

To destroy the Hero Association at any cost.

Although everything changed when I was forced to enroll into the one place that I refused to attend.

A Hero Academy.
