Chapter 2 - This World had Magic?!

After some internal debate, Rohit decided that he would play the role of Robert Smith to figure out what to do next.

He wandered around the apartment—a small kitchen, a basic toilet and bath, along with a simple bedroom.

Beside the bed, there was a shelf with a dozen books neatly placed.

Robert looked at the titles and read, "History of KUC." Then, he glanced at another book and read the title, "Basic Magic Spells for Humans."

Magic?!Thisworldhasmagic!

Since his teenage years, Rohit had been very fond of fantasy novels and their magic systems. He had also played several games featuring them.

Magic?IsthisanoverpoweredskillthatIamgoingtolearn?

He thought as he opened the book and saw the first chapter laid out on the yellowish pages.

"HOW TO HOLD YOUR WAND."

Rohit assumed this would be basic, so he simply glanced at the first illustration of the stance and skipped the rest of the chapter.

Turning the page, he found the next heading, designed in an elegant font:

"MOVE YOUR FIRST OBJECT."

As soon as he read the title, his eyes glittered with excitement.

I have to try this!

From his memories, he recalled that Robert could use magic and had a wand somewhere in the drawers beside his bed.

He searched through the drawers until he found a cuboid-shaped box in the lowest one.

Slowly, he opened the wooden box and found a wand. It was completely black, made of wood, with a white strip at the end. In the middle of the wand, a text was engraved in a mysterious language that Rohit didn't understand.

Maybe it's for identification purposes...

He thought, attempting to justify the curiosity that arose in his mind.

He then carefully picked up the wand. It was neatly polished and smooth to the touch.

Recalling the information from the book, he located a nearby flowerpot on the table and pointed at it.

"Aere." He said calmly.

Suddenly, a small circle of intricate and complex patterns emerged at the wand's tip, followed by a faint, uneven line that connected the wand to the flowerpot.

Soon enough, the flowerpot began to float in the air. Rohit didn't feel any weight from it, but he lost his focus, and—

CRACK!

The flowerpot shattered into shards as it hit the ground.

"Oh no..." he muttered regretfully as he crouched down to pick up the broken pieces.

After spending some time disposing of the shards, Rohit decided it was time to go to his shift, as it was already 11:30 at night.

Time works similar to earth here...

He noted as he put on a brown coat and a grey hat.

Living on the fourth floor of a five-story building, he walked through the dim hallways, where weak gas lamps provided barely enough light for visibility. However, the windows filled the gaps of darkness wherever their reach extended.

As he descended the wooden stairs and walked toward the exit door, a hand suddenly gripped his shoulder. Startled, Rohit quickly pulled out his wand. Even though he didn't know any offensive spells, he thought just brandishing the wand might scare away a potential threat.

As he turned around and pointed the wand, he saw a middle-aged, chubby man with freckles on his cheeks. Quickly stepping back, the man spoke.

"Oi, boy, what are ya doin'?"

Rohit let his guard down upon realizing that this was his landlord, Mr. Owen.

He lowered his wand and scratched the back of his head with his other hand.

"Oh, Mr. Owen, forgive me. I was just startled by the sudden contact..."

Mr. Owen, in an irritated yet somewhat startled tone, replied, "Well, mind your manners, boy, before I kick your butt outta here!"

Rohit bowed his head slightly.

"Mr. Owen, I'm in a bit of a hurry for my job."

Mr. Owen clicked his tongue and said, "Don't cause any ruckus!" before walking back upstairs.

From fragments of Robert's memories, Rohit knew that Mr. Owen was not a good landlord. He constantly accused tenants of overusing electricity whenever someone exceeded his set "limit," and if anyone used too much water, he would bang on their door, shouting:

"Damn you, thief! Drop the usage!"

What an old fart...

Rohit thought as he stepped outside and saw the bustling city. People walked on slightly raised footpaths, and horse-drawn carriages moved along the stone-paved roads.

As he walked, he recalled from Robert's memories that this city was called Cosford, an important port city for the Kingdom of KUC.

Upon reaching the library, he saw a beautiful woman with blonde hair, a stunning red dress, and deep green eyes.

"Oh, Mr. Robert, you're here?" she said, seemingly familiar with Robert.

She walked closer and handed him a set of keys.

"Please take care of my library."

With that, she walked away and booked a carriage home.
