Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Dimensional Discussion

"Let us know by Thursday." Mr. Saul said.

The job seems really promising. Stable pay, opportunities for professional development, hazard pay, and very flexible hours. However, this job doesn't just require local work orders but also across the US, different countries , and different dimensions. There have been dimensions that other Wielders have ventured to never return or with injures if they were lucky.

Lacy had a lot to think about. Should she get a will and life insurance? Should she decline the offer and look for another opportunity? Will there be another opportunity like this again? Is it too good to be true?

Lacy pulled up the contract on her tablet. Looking for additional details. It was written in the way that Mr. Saul described it. Meetings once a week, flexible hours, continuing education is covered, consistent pay, and work the complete work order.

It's currently Tuesday evening, and Lacy has to give her decision on Thursday. She was gazing out the window at the stars. She grasped her sinahi(crescent-shaped necklace made out of carabao bone). She then shut her eyes and visualized herself sitting on top of a rock in a meadow. The breeze is gentle, and the field grass gently brushes her forearm.

"Should I? " She asks, looking up at the clouds. The environment stays the same. No grey clouds appeared. No change in weather. No sun. The current environment is relaxed with the weather being warm but overcast. It's all up to her. If she can choose to stay at the rock in the meadow where the weather is still and quiet. She gets up from the rock, and satchel appears along with a wide brimmed hat made of woven palm leaves, on top of her head.

Her eyes open, Lacy is back in her apartment, in her bedroom, and at her window looking up the stars. She looked down to find her hand grasped on her sinahi. She released her grip off the necklace. She went to her bathroom to brush her teeth. She then removed her clothes and took a shower. After finishing her shower, she stepped out on the rug in front of the bathroom sink. As she brushes her hair, she reasons that she doesn't have enough time in the evening to allow her long, wavy hair to air dry. She slides open her top drawer and pulls out her sonic hair dryer. She positions the sonic hair dryer at an angle above her head. She uses her free hand to hold on the sink counter. She clicks the button on the hair dryer and strong gust of wind whips through her hair. Lacy runs a comb through her hair, followed by a finger, and feels her hair is not wet.

She pulls a robe hanging on the hook on the back of the bathroom door and puts it on one arm at a time, then fastens it with waist cord. She opens the door and approaches the foot of the bed. At the foot of the bed,Lacy picks up her folded pajamas. She puts them on and crawls up to the head of the bed. She turns to her bed table, looks at her phone to set her alarm, and puts her phone on the charging dock. She gets under the covers, head laying the pillow and falls asleep.

...

That morning, Lacy signs the contract and submits it. After two hours, her phone rings. "Welcome to the co-operative, Ms. Korten" Mr. Saul congratulated her. "So, got any work tomorrow?"

"No, sir." She replied.

"Great. I'm going to send you the dress code, along with a list of safety equipment and tools to keep on you. Let me know if there are items you don't have. Don't buy anything you don't have."Mr. Saul emphasized.

"Yes sir." Lacy replied politely.

"Ms. Germaine will issue you a money voucher, which will look like a gift card. " Saul further explained. "We will see you tomorrow for training."

Mr. Saul handed Lacy a brochure showing the room numbers of

the different co-op's departments. She saw the room and floor for Ms.

Germaine's floor.

"Thanks Mr. Saul, I will go to the 3rd floor to see Ms.Germaine". She heads to the elevator and pushes the button going to the third floor.

****

Three hours before Lacy's arrival.

"Saul, what made you take special interest in this candidate." Asked Ms. Germaine.

"Her experience is the first thing I noticed. Then there's the fact that she possesses Virtual Magic and Electric Static Discharge. She can use her abilities to jump into a computer system to apply patches, eradicate malware, and look for lost files. Her ESD magic is a concern since it can be used to short circuit a motherboard." Saul explained.

"We need to be sure to give her ESD gloves to wear." Saul replied.

"Does she have any experience traveling in different dimensions or even a dimension license? Hell, is there any mention on her record or herself even being in simulated environments that mimic any given dimension conditions." Asked a middle-aged bald man.

"She didn't mention it, nor did I ask." Saul admitted.

"I have heard talk about this wielder and would like to have her in the cooperative as well, but we need to be sure she can handle herself in different dimensions." Germaine stated with concern.

"We will address it when she arrives." Saul stated.

***

"Ms. Korten, I need to know, do you have any issues with traveling to different dimensions?" Ms. Germaine asked.

"I accept all the risks with inter-dimensional travel.I don't have a license to go to different dimensions." Lacy responded.

"Have you ever done simulated environments or been in virtual machine simulators before?" Ms. Germaine asked.

"It's been a while, but I think I can manage again." Lacy responded.

Ms. Germaine smirks at Lacey. "Well, I would like see that." She challenges.

A mix of excitement stirs in Lacy and she begins to unwrap herESD protective wrist straps and locks eye contact with Ms. Germaine.

"I'm ready ma'am!" Lacy proclaims with static zap around her

and wand firmly gripped.
