Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Lacy The Tech Wielder

Name: Lacy Mariana Korten

Tech Wielder: Vulnerability Testing-Basic Tech Support-Consultant.

Status: Freelance

Age: 29

There are different types of magic but also different categories of mages. Wielders; non-traditional magic, Healers; Medical, Attackers; Combative, Scholars; Archivists of Magic, Scientists; different areas of science; and Allers; admin and service jobs.

The clerk at the Tech Wielder Center looked at Lacy's ID, and then looked at her work order. Lacy just got back from consulting a small business. Lacy inspected the premises and ran diagnostics on the site's vulnerabilities with their network. Lacy was waiting for the clerk to finish read over the report and just get money for the day. The work order reward is set for $200 and really needed the clerk to process this.

"Okay Ms. Korten, I will stamp this as complete and get this processed." The clerk said.

"Thank you, sir" Lacy replied.

"Lacy, will you consider using your skills for stable work and consistent pay?" the Clerk asked.

"Sure, but is there a company out there willing to be ask flexible as this?" She replied.

"They exist, you just need to search more. I got another card from another company looking for someone like you." The clerk said as he handed a business card.

"Thank you, again sir. See you later" She said as she existed the building. She walked three buildings down, and turned left into the alley to throw the card in the dumpster.

Lacy liked being freelance due to the flexible schedule and ability to choose her jobs. She accepted the business card just to be polite, but she knew that clerk wasn't just a clerk. He makes additional money as a head hunter to recruit Tech Wielders to various Corporate companies. She wasn't against work for a corporation, again. However, she really didn't want to. She liked completing the job and being done for the day if she really needed the cash.

Lacy has been a Tech Wielder for 7 years. She got her start working at a startup then did developed her skills with various certifications . After acquiring her second certification, she decided to go freelance. She at times chose to take on multiple jobs and other times just one.

Lacy was sitting at Park table eating her lunch that she brought with her and checking her inventory. ESD wrist straps, sonic wand, screwdrivers, and her tablet she used for consulting&diagnostics. The wand she had was 4 years old, and she needed an upgrade. She pulled up her phone and looked for the nearest store for Tech Wielders. She could order it off the internet, but she could also take the chance of the item being stolen while in transit. Mage items frequently get stolen in transit, then sold in the underground market. So it's best to go in person.

While she was browsing different wands, a hand appears in front her and she then grabs her knife out of her belt holster for defense.

"Whoa, easy, sorry to startle you. I just needed to give you this." Lacy looked up at the stranger, and he was an average size man in a suit, polarized sunglasses, and gloves. The stranger gives Lacy a letter.

"So who are you and who is this from?" She asked. Lacy glared at the man with suscipion. He appeared out of nowhere and interrupted her meal.

"Read the letter, you'll know. Nothing dangerous about this letter. I'm just the courier." Said the odd man. Lacy looked at the envelope that has her name on it to confim it was for her.

"I don't think we've met, how did you find me?" Lacy looks back to man but he wasn't there. It seems used to a transporttion fob to transport out of the park. It was a bit unnerving for Lacy.

Lacy opens the white envelope. The Letter reads:

"Dear Ms. Korten,

We have been looking over your stats as a Tech Wielder and think you will be the perfect candidate for our cooperative.

We offer bi-weekly pay of 3000 per pay period, flexible hours, and exciting opportunities to travel.

We hope you'll consider our offer.

Sincerely,

Tech Wielder's Society Cooperative"

Lacy contemplated after reading the letter. She's never considered working for a cooperative before, but was it all it seemed? There is the promise for consistent work, thus consistent pay, and flexible hours. Perhaps it was worth exploring.
