BEEP! BEEP!
My eyes fluttered open, and the first thing I felt was something cold and tight against my face—an oxygen mask. My chest heaved as panic clawed up my throat.
No… no, not again… Had I… landed in a hospital again?
I groaned, fighting the haze of pain and confusion.
Mom will be worried. Again.
Then a voice sliced through the fog.
"Oh… the patient is waking up! Doctor! Doctor!"
Everything swirled into focus. The sterile white ceiling, the fluorescent lights humming overhead, the rhythmic beeping of machines.
A doctor stepped forward, his face tense yet relieved. "Mr. Luca… Mr. Luca! Can you hear me?"
Luca? My real name? My heart skipped. How did they know that? I squinted at him, trying to gather my scattered thoughts.
"Do you… do you remember who you are?" he asked.
I blinked slowly, the world still spinning. "…I… I'm… Luca," I murmured, testing the name on my tongue.
