Chapter 318: The Era of the Douluo God Realm – Part VIII: Confrontation
Though the artifact Bibi Dong wielded was powerful, it was merely a level three god artifact. To a former Rakshasa God like her, it was more like a weapon of last resort than a prized possession. Originally, the Rakshasa God had used it to coerce Bibi Dong, tempting her with the artifact to inherit the god's position and escape her pursuit.
Now, Ye Wen raised his hands in mock surrender, trying to lighten the mood. "Dong'er, I swear, I'm innocent! Hear me out!"
Amused by his theatrics, Bibi Dong put the dagger away and gave him a playful kick. Though they had been together for ages, and she trusted his character, she also knew something must be bothering him.
"All right, out with it. Why were you sneaking into Na'er's room in the middle of the night?"
Dropping the pretense, Ye Wen took on a more serious tone and explained Na'er's situation in detail. Bibi Dong's expression turned grave; she genuinely cared for Na'er and was troubled by the complicated dilemma plaguing their family.
"I knew letting you marry that woman was a mistake," she muttered, covering her face in frustration. "Look at the mess we're in now!"
Becoming a god had granted her the ability to erase memories, revive souls, and even reincarnate beings. But what Gu Yuena had done splitting her soul and creating two interconnected beings was beyond anything Bibi Dong had encountered. Over time, both Na'er and Gu Yuena had developed distinct lives, only to be forced back into this entangled state, creating a situation that tested both Ye Wen's patience and his sense of right and wrong.
Already regretting her involvement in the matter, Bibi Dong made a quick decision. "Ugh, I'm exhausted, dear. This is your problem as head of the household. I'll leave it to you to figure out. Good night!" With that, she vanished in a flash, locking herself in her room.
(TロT)σWhat?! Bibi Dong, don't just run off! Aren't you supposed to help me solve this?
For a moment, Ye Wen thought back. Perhaps he truly should never have married the Silver Dragon King. After all, he already had Ah Yin, another soul beast wife. But Bibi Dong's abrupt escape reminded him of the reality he was on his own for this one.
Sigh. Looks like it's just me, he thought.
Despite already having Ah Yin, it was Gu Yuena's status as the Silver Dragon King that had truly united the soul beast clans under him. Her bloodline, the purest and most powerful, allowed her to command respect from even the most stubborn of soul beasts.
Returning to Gu Yuena's bedroom, he found her asleep, her serene face reflecting an innocence that contrasted sharply with the complicated reality. Sitting at the table, he kept his thoughts to himself for a long while before finally joining her in slumber.
The following morning, Ye Wen awoke still muddled with unresolved thoughts. But the scent left behind on the empty bed reminded him that Gu Yuena had already left, no doubt attending to her duties.
Sighing, Ye Wen faced the day's looming issue, deeply considering how to proceed. He had worked tirelessly to create a moral and ethical society on Douluo Star, banning the chaotic practices of the feudal Tian Dou and Xing Luo kingdoms. Now, any deviation would contradict the very values he had instilled. As the highest authority on Douluo Star, he could enforce whatever he wanted, but violating his own rules could sow the seeds of collapse for the very system he had built.
Unable to find an answer on his own, he resolved to seek out Gu Yuena and work through it together.
Ye Wen found her in a courtyard, sipping tea. She looked up as he approached, an amused glint in her eye.
"My, it's rare for you to come see me at this hour, husband. What's the matter?" she asked, setting her cup down and meeting his gaze with a piercing look.
The tension surrounding Ye Wen was palpable, a testament to how troubled he felt about Na'er.
"You know very well why I'm here," he replied.
But rather than the panic he had expected, Gu Yuena maintained her composure, taking another sip of tea with a serene smile. "I'm afraid I don't understand, dear. Please, no cryptic words."
Her nonchalant attitude only fueled Ye Wen's frustration. He leaned forward, fingers interlaced, brow deeply furrowed. "You're pretending not to know, Gu Yuena? I asked you, before our marriage, not to interfere with Na'er. You promised, yet look at her now. You must know why."
Setting down her cup, Gu Yuena met his gaze evenly, her eyes calm and unwavering.
"In truth, I haven't violated any promises. You only asked that I not take control of Na'er's body or interfere with her relationship with you. I have kept that promise. After all, you've enjoyed every night we've spent together, haven't you? Why the sudden accusations?"
Her calm, unbothered gaze left Ye Wen feeling helpless.
Technically, she hadn't broken their agreement. Gu Yuena had indeed shared her true form with him, yet Na'er's strange, unwanted reactions to their relationship made him deeply uneasy.
Seeing his discomfort, Gu Yuena continued, "Perhaps you've forgotten, but Na'er and I are, at our core, the same being. I am but one part of the Silver Dragon King, and so is Na'er. If we're to speak in human terms, Na'er and I are sisters. As your wife, Na'er is not only your adopted daughter she's your sister in law. Am I wrong?"
Her logic was sound, leaving Ye Wen dumbfounded.
Seeing him nod stiffly, Gu Yuena pressed further. "So why are you conflicted, my dear husband? If you want to bring Na'er into our family, I wouldn't object. Or, if you'd prefer that Na'er and I merge completely into one being, I would agree to that as well."
Just as she finished speaking, Ye Wen shot to his feet, his chair clattering to the floor, his eyes fixed on her in shock.
