Chapter 335: Douluo God Realm Era Part XXV: Persuading the Ice Empress (Part 1)
Ye Wen's wives were initially surprised by the news of him taking another wife but quickly expressed their understanding. They knew Ye Wen well and trusted that he wouldn't make such a move without a good reason. The only one who seemed unhappy was the petite girl with twin pigtails in a green dress, who could be found outside his door almost every day, casting piercingly resentful looks in his direction each time he passed.
Of course, this small figure was none other than the Ice God, Ice Empress.
Even after ten thousand years, Ice Empress hadn't relented in her tireless pursuit of Snow Empress. It seemed her heart was still captivated by her first love, and she showed no signs of giving up. Now that Snow Empress had integrated with the world consciousness, Ye Wen had given her a new name: Tian Xue Empress. Bearing the name "Tian," which means "heaven," symbolized her new position as the ruler of Douluo Star.
From the look in Ice Empress's eyes, Ye Wen could see a hint of irritation buried beneath her wary expression, maybe even a hint of malice. Could she have gone from devoted lover to possessive fanatic? Not that it mattered much Ye Wen was confident in his power, and with Ice Empress having only recently achieved the level of a First Class God, she was hardly a match for him. But having her constantly lurking outside his door made him uneasy. Who knew what a jealous Ice Empress might do?
Deciding it was best to resolve this issue sooner rather than later, Ye Wen invited her inside for a talk.
"So, what do you want from me?" Ice Empress grumbled, taking a seat, clearly unamused. "You called me here, so why are you just sitting there staring at me?"
Ye Wen poured a cup of tea for her, maintaining a polite demeanor, but it was clear Ice Empress wasn't having it. In her eyes, Ye Wen had stolen her beloved Snow Empress from her, and she wasn't about to forgive that easily. He could only sigh at her stubbornness.
"Calm down, Ice Empress. I don't mean you any harm," he said, trying to soothe her while taking a sip of tea.
But Ice Empress only grew more suspicious, her eyes narrowing as she looked him up and down. Being an ice goddess, she shouldn't have felt chills yet Ye Wen's calm demeanor was enough to make her uneasy.
Realizing his approach wasn't working, Ye Wen opted for blunt honesty. "Fine, I'll get to the point, Ice Empress. It's time to give up on Snow Empress. You and she are just not meant to be."
That was all it took to set her off. Ice Empress leapt up, indignant.
"What did you say?!" she yelled, her expression turning fierce. "That's a lie! Snow Empress loves me she has to! The only reason she married you is because you used some underhanded trick! Everyone knows about your sick tendencies, and now you're pretending to be some kind of decent guy with me? I'm not falling for it!"
Ye Wen's face darkened as she continued her rant. Sure, he had a large family, but it was hardly out of control, and he certainly didn't appreciate being called names. There had clearly been some unpleasant rumors circulating, and he'd need to put a stop to them. But right now, Ice Empress was pushing all the wrong buttons.
"Enough!" he commanded, his voice low and cold, amplifying his energy until it pinned her in place. Ice Empress, though enraged, couldn't muster the strength to resist. Her eyes blazed with defiance, but she stayed where she was, barely able to move under the weight of his aura.
Seeing no sign of compliance, Ye Wen decided he'd had enough and placed a silencing seal on her, ending her rant. At last, the room was quiet. But even in silence, her bright eyes continued to seethe with indignation, giving him a look that practically screamed, "Go ahead, prove you're the degenerate I thought you were!"
Ye Wen's patience was at its limit. Even if she was Snow Empress's friend, this constant provocation was pushing him too far. Moreover, her petite form wasn't even remotely his type; it wasn't like she was a younger version of Ah Yin or anything. Resolving to put her in her place, he ignored her status as Ice Empress, picked her up, and placed her across his lap.
Smack!Smack!Smack!
After a few firm slaps, Ice Empress was outraged. She had long harbored feelings for Snow Empress, and the idea that anyone else would touch her even just to scold her was beyond humiliating. She cursed Ye Wen inwardly, vowing that one day she would train hard enough to get her revenge.
Only after about a dozen strikes did Ye Wen finally calm down. He lifted the seal on her powers and unceremoniously set her back in her chair.
"Listen here," he said, glaring at her sternly. "From now on, I'll talk, and you'll listen. No more outbursts, or I'll carry you straight to Snow Empress herself and let her watch me finish your punishment."
Ice Empress's face fell, her bravado fading. She'd rather endure anything than let her beloved Snow Empress witness her disgrace.
With his temper now under control, Ye Wen collected his thoughts and continued in a level tone. "Let me make it clear again: whatever you think you feel for Snow Empress, it isn't meant to be. You two are simply incompatible."
Ice Empress glared at him in silent defiance, a look of resentment still simmering in her eyes.
"That said," Ye Wen added, softening his tone, "I don't mind if you continue spending time with Snow Empress. If you can win her heart fair and square, I won't stand in your way. After all, she's my wife, not my possession. She has the right to her own happiness."
Ice Empress's gaze softened, and for a brief moment, she looked at him as if reassessing his character. Perhaps, she thought, Ye Wen wasn't as bad as she'd imagined.
Good grief, Ye Wen thought, sighing inwardly. First, I had to steal her first love, and now I'm the villain. I suppose I can put up with a few insults.
