Chapter 338 - Chapter 340: The Douluo God Realm Era   Part XXX: The Escape

Chapter 340: The Douluo God Realm Era Part XXX: The Escape

Ye Wen raised a hand to calm his allies.

"No need, seriously. There's no need," he said. "The guy in front of us reeks of a certain monkey's arrogance. If we fight him recklessly, any of us taking even a hit would leave me worrying for weeks."

Ye Wen turned to the Dragon God and said, "I respect you as a senior, Dragon God. I'd like to see you act the part as well. Jokes only go so far. I don't know your exact power, but I can promise you, in the end, you'll be lost forever in this vast ocean of stars."

As expected, the Dragon God straightened slightly, giving Ye Wen an appraising glance.

"Impressive. Someone capable of annihilating the old God Realm a man of both courage and wisdom."

Ye Wen met the compliment with an unyielding stare, and silence settled as they stood in an intense standoff.

After a moment, the Dragon God sighed, rubbing his face with fatigue.

"I knew I wasn't cut out for pleasantries. Even you youngsters can see right through me."

"Enough games, Dragon God," Ye Wen replied coldly. "If you have business here, then say so. If this keeps up, we might really end up fighting."

With that, the Dragon God dropped his facade.

"I only wanted to see how the dragons fared under your rule. Had I not been discovered, I would have left quietly, sparing us this mess. Besides," he added with a note of sincerity, "this planet is my birthplace. I would never harm my own world."

The Dragon God's frankness didn't move Ye Wen in the slightest. Having studied the Dragon God before, Ye Wen had concluded that he was a creature of extreme pride and selfishness. Why wouldn't he be, given what Douluo Star had suffered because of him?

A thought crossed Ye Wen's mind: should he try to destroy the Dragon God here and now?

He immediately dismissed it. With only a fifty percent chance of success, the cost would likely be too high. Besides, Ye Wen's forces were strong enough to deter the Dragon God. Without a sufficient resource pool, the Dragon God wouldn't be able to create an army of god kings to challenge Ye Wen's own.

"Since you've seen what you came to see, Dragon God, will you kindly leave my domain?" Ye Wen's tone sharpened. "This is my territory now, and having a powerhouse like you wandering around makes everyone a little uneasy. Or," he added, "do you intend to reclaim your former Dragon Realm here? Because if that's your aim, we'll have to settle things according to the law of the jungle."

The Dragon God's gaze softened, and he muttered to himself, "It's just like back then. Qiu Niu and the others also stood by me, ready to fight."

Realizing the Dragon God genuinely seemed uninterested in conflict, Ye Wen reined in his killing intent.

The Dragon God glanced briefly at Na'er, who stood somewhat apart from the group.

In name, Silver Dragon King Na'er was a part of him, half of his own soul. Yet, she lacked his memories, and she was born from his flesh combined with his powers of creation and wisdom a completely new entity. To him, she was like a daughter, one he'd long felt a pang of regret toward, though his fractured mind had led him to do many reckless things. Now, seeing her here with this young husband, he sensed she'd found happiness. In fact, this young god before him looked to be the ideal son in law.

"Shame they'll probably never let me meet my grandson," he thought bitterly before returning his attention to Ye Wen.

"Relax, young god king. I'm only here for a brief visit and mean no harm. If there is anything I'd like to leave behind…"

He raised a hand, summoning a glowing, nine colored gem. The radiance coalesced into a divine spark, brilliant and profound.

He tossed it to Ye Wen.

"Please help me find a dragon worthy of carrying on my legacy."

Ye Wen was dumbfounded. The Dragon God had handed over his divine spark the most precious possession of a dragon god just like that?

As if reading his confusion, he heard a faint whisper beside him.

"Take care of Xiao Yin and my grandson, dear son in law. If we ever meet again, may it be in friendship."

Before Ye Wen could react, the Dragon God's translucent form began to fade, dissipating until it vanished entirely.

"He... ran?" Ye Wen was left stunned. He'd assembled this grand force, preparing for a climactic battle, and the Dragon God simply left him holding a god spark?

"And who said I agreed to be your son in law, you lunatic?! Get back here and explain!"

Tracking the remnant spatial trail the Dragon God had left would be impossible. Ye Wen was a master of spatial arts, but even he couldn't follow such a faint trace.

He looked down at the divine spark in his hand. It was, indeed, the core of the Dragon God a priceless inheritance. He could sense a hidden gift within it, though he didn't yet know its nature.

Returning to Douluo Star with his group, they breathed a collective sigh of relief at their close brush with catastrophe. All remained unscathed, a fortunate outcome. The gods dispersed, but Na'er stayed, her expression conflicted. Ye Wen spent time comforting her, helping her set aside any lingering ties to the Dragon God.

And now, what to do with this god spark? The legacy of the greatest madman of Douluo Star wasn't exactly easy to place.
