Kael's thoughts ran wild, and he failed to be aware of his surroundings. He was currently straddling the buzz-cut guy's head and needed to maintain his focus so he wouldn't get pushed off.
The buzz-cut guy, realizing that Kael's attention was elsewhere, managed to land a fist on Kael's face. Kael grimaced as the pain hit, his head snapping back. As the guy was about to land another blow, Kael quickly raised his forearm to protect his face but then, nothing collided with his hands, and Kael opened them.
Before his eyes was another hand—tanned, holding the buzz-cut guy's fist in place.
His heart beat wildly. He knew whose hand it was, but he still traced it up to meet the face of Leonhardt, who was staring hard at him, brows furrowed.
'Is he angry?' Kael wondered, continuing to stare at his face, forgetting what people might say or think. It seemed like he cared more about Leonhardt seeing him like that than anything else.
