A calm voice cut through the tension.
"Bakudō #81. Dankū."
Aizen, without turning, a semi-transparent spiritual energy barrier materialized behind him.
A deafening roar followed by a powerful shockwave of spiritual energy marked Aizen and his cohorts' swift retreat. Tessai Tsukabishi stood rooted to the spot, his face a mask of disbelief.
"Impossible! A mere Vice-Captain, using a chantless Dankū to block my Hiryū Gekizoku Shinten Raihō?!" Tessai muttered incredulously.
"While he's a Vice-Captain, he's been deliberately keeping a low profile to further his own schemes. His true spiritual pressure far surpasses yours and mine; deflecting your Hadō is hardly surprising," Urahara said calmly.
He knelt, checking on the injured Shinigami one by one, finally breathing a sigh of relief when he confirmed that none were dead.
"Is there any chance of recovery for them?"
Looking at his fallen comrades, Tessai asked anxiously.
A glint of determination flashed in Urahara's eyes. "There is, but their survival depends on their own resilience. Regardless, we must get them back to the Research and Development Institute."
Ushōda nodded. "Then it's up to you. Time is of the essence, and with so many injured here, I can only use a forbidden technique to transport everyone."
"A forbidden technique?" Urahara questioned.
"Indeed. Only myself and Hachi possess the ability to use this spell.
It risks disrupting spacetime, hence its prohibition by the Central 46."
Ushōda explained, while simultaneously gathering his spiritual pressure.
He raised his hands, and a golden spiritual energy hemisphere enveloped everyone present.
"Time stasis, spatial transfer!" Ushōda shouted.
In an instant, the golden hemisphere vanished, transporting everyone to the Research and Development Institute within the Seireitei.
Urahara approached a seemingly ordinary cabinet, opened it, revealing a password-protected safe.
Quickly inputting the code, he retrieved a gem radiating a deep blue light.
Seeing the gem, Ushōda showed a mixture of surprise and fear.
"What is this? I sense a power within it capable of annihilating all existence!" Ushōda said gravely.
Urahara responded slowly, "It's called the 'Hōgyoku,' created recently. Your assessment is correct; its power is terrifying, so much so that even I, its creator, dare not use it lightly. I've kept it hidden here."
A glint flashed in Urahara's eyes. "But it's our only chance to save Hirako and the others."
At that moment, a deeply troubling thought consumed Urahara: Aizen undoubtedly possessed a Hōgyoku as well.
While examining Hirako and the others, he had detected traces of the Hōgyoku's power within the strange spiritual energy that caused their Hollowfication.
This led him to the idea of using one Hōgyoku to counteract the other, using his own to stabilize the Hollowfied energy within Hirako and the others.
"Only a Hōgyoku can defeat a Hōgyoku!" Urahara thought to himself.
As Urahara channeled the power of his Hōgyoku to balance the Hollowfied spiritual energy within Hirako and the others, he was surprised to discover that his Hōgyoku's energy possessed a counteractive attribute, suppressing their Hollowfication far beyond his expectations.
"I initially estimated only a 20% chance of saving them, but now it seems I have an 80% chance of success!" Urahara thought, inwardly elated.
After some reflection, he understood why his Hōgyoku was so effective.
His Hōgyoku was created using Hollow spiritual particles, while Aizen's was made using Shinigami spiritual particles. Hollow and Shinigami energies are inherently antagonistic, granting his Hōgyoku the ability to suppress Aizen's.
However, this suppression is reciprocal; Aizen's Hōgyoku would similarly suppress his.
"That Aizen, truly unfathomable. Not only is his power inscrutable, but he also possesses the ability to create a Hōgyoku!" Urahara thought.
While Urahara was busy saving Hirako and the others, Aizen and Yusuke were also far from idle.
Aizen had already dispatched his subordinates to report Urahara's unauthorized departure from the Seireitei, falsely accusing him of conducting Hollowfication experiments and being the true culprit behind the soul disappearances.
Yusuke, meanwhile, covertly observed both Aizen and Urahara, including Urahara's use of the Hōgyoku to save Hirako and the others.
Yusuke possessed the strength to seize the Hōgyoku from Urahara.
However, his own Hōgyoku, also created from Hollow spiritual particles, was functionally identical to Urahara's and could not be fused to create a more powerful one.
Therefore, seizing Urahara's Hōgyoku would only serve to alert Aizen and offer no tangible benefit.
For Yusuke, the truly valuable prize was the Hōgyoku created from Shinigami souls—Aizen's Hōgyoku!
Just as Urahara finally stabilized the Hollowfication in Hirako and the others, the Central 46's guard force surrounded the Research and Development Institute.
These guards were all clad in black, ninja-like attire, their faces masked, their hair concealed beneath headbands, making identification impossible. Their appearance was strikingly similar to the 2nd Division's execution squad.
"Captain Urahara Kisuke of the 12th Division, and Head Kidō Captain Tessai Tsukabishi, surrender immediately and accompany us to the Central 46 for questioning,"
A guard, seemingly their leader, stated calmly.
Unaware of Aizen's preemptive strike, Urahara believed his summons was due to his unauthorized departure to provide support, while Tessai assumed his arrest was due to using a forbidden spell that could disrupt spacetime.
The Central 46 had already deemed them responsible for the Hollowfication experiments and the resulting disappearances of souls.
Urahara was considered the primary offender, and Tessai an accomplice.
Without understanding the gravity of the situation, they offered no resistance, allowing the guards to place the spiritual restraints upon them, sealing their spiritual power before being taken to the Central 46's court for judgment.
