...

"Nemesis! Impossible!" – shouted Murlus V in terror.

Nemesis, the assassin ranked number one on the list, the legendary killer. Very little is known about Nemesis, only that she always kills instantly and without leaving any trace behind; as if she had never been at the crime scene. The only information investigators have is what she allowed to be known.

Unlike the vast majority of assassins—if not all of them—Nemesis was not a common killer. She never accepted jobs she did not want. In other words, she only accepted missions if they seemed interesting to her. Because of this, the number of confirmed murders committed by Nemesis was the lowest among all assassins in the galaxy.

Then why was she ranked number one? Simple: like Yami, Nemesis always killed her targets. But unlike Yami, who left traces, Nemesis never left any sign that she had even been involved. For that reason, there is only one confirmed case of Nemesis committing a murder. The rest of her killings remain unproven due to her elusive nature.

Even with such little information, one fact is certain: she is strong, extremely strong. It is said Nemesis is stronger than even Zastin and that only the King himself could suppress her.

Despite all this, Nemesis was not a killer who murdered for pleasure. She did not even care for money. Thanks to her physiology, she did not feel hunger or thirst, nor did she require shelter. Money held no importance to her.

"You look… surprised," Nemesis smiled.

"What are you doing here?!" – Murlus V shouted.

But he quickly regained his composure and forced a grin.

"Wait, that doesn't matter! I have a mission for you, and I'll pay you whatever amount you ask if you carry it out!" – Murlus V exclaimed.

How she got in no longer mattered. The only thing in Murlus V's head now was killing the human who had stolen everything from him. And who better than Nemesis, the most powerful assassin, to fulfill his wish?

"Oh? And who do you want me to kill?" – asked Nemesis.

At her words, Murlus V grinned.

"I want you to kill Akira Sato, the future King of the galaxy. As for money, just name your price, and I will pay it!" – said Murlus V.

Even if he bankrupted himself, that human had to die. He would simply raise taxes later to recover his losses.

"Akira Sato? The heir to the throne? You want me to kill such an important person?" – Nemesis asked.

"That's right! I want him dead! I don't care what methods you use, just kill him!" – Murlus V shouted angrily.

Nemesis remained silent for a few seconds, then smiled.

"What a pity. But right now I am already in the middle of a job and cannot accept yours. Do you want to know what it is?" – Nemesis asked as she stood up.

She was smiling, but it was not a smile of happiness—rather one that radiated absolute terror, paralyzing everyone present.

"W-what job?" – Murlus V barely managed to ask.

"Simple. To kill you." – said Nemesis.

In an instant, Nemesis turned into black smoke, and the next moment she was standing right behind Murlus V, before anyone could even react.

Her speed was so great that no one even noticed when she moved. They only realized it when she was already beside their ruler.

Murlus V trembled with fear, looking as though he might soil himself. Normally, having such a beautiful woman like Nemesis beside him would arouse him, but now he felt only absolute terror from the depths of his soul.

Do you think no one had ever tried to make Nemesis their woman? Of course they had. But they all failed. And curiously, those who attempted to kidnap or force her were found dead days later, without visible wounds, poison, or illness. Their deaths appeared entirely natural.

"Do you know who hired me? Since you're about to die, I don't mind telling you." – Nemesis whispered in his ear.

Murlus V didn't respond, his body shaking like jelly.

"I know you're curious, but fear has stolen your voice, so I'll tell you anyway. The one who ordered me to kill you was none other than the King of the Galaxy, Gid." – Nemesis said with a smile.

No one in the galaxy, apart from his family, was permitted to call the King by name. But Nemesis was an exception. The King himself had granted her the right, so long as she did not abuse it. Why? Because Gid admired her strength and believed she was worthy of such an honor. Simple as that.

At her words, Murlus V was so shocked he nearly died of a heart attack.

"Impossible!" – he exclaimed.

"It's the truth. In fact, he asked me as a personal favor, so technically he didn't hire me, which means he isn't breaking the law. Before you die, let me say this: you should never have tried to kill Akira Sato. Only a foolish idiot without a brain would. That is why I hate most nobles. Most of you think only with your genitals, ready to commit any crime to obtain a woman who suits your tastes. That is your downfall—and the downfall of many others who will follow you soon." – said Nemesis.

Murlus V tried to say something, but—

"Goodbye. Reflect in the next life—if there is one—on your actions. And if you are lucky enough to be reincarnated, I hope it is as a cockroach, so you can be crushed like the pathetic insect you are." – said Nemesis.

Then she transformed into a smoke blacker than coal, and it entered directly into Murlus V's body.

Terrified, he could only watch as Nemesis invaded him, powerless to stop it.

At first, nothing happened. But within seconds, Murlus V was dead. Just like that—no convulsions, no heart attack. He simply dropped dead like a fish.

Immediately after his death, Nemesis emerged from his body and materialized again.

Looking around the silent hall, Nemesis scanned the women who were frozen in shock. But contrary to the terror she expected…

"Yes! He's finally dead!" – shouted one woman.

Her cry was soon followed by many more, all celebrating the death of their ruler, Murlus V, who had terrorized them and forced them into vile acts.

Seeing this, Dita nervously stepped closer to Nemesis and bowed.

"Mm?" – Nemesis tilted her head.

"I want to thank you on behalf of all women for killing that disgusting bastard!" – Dita exclaimed.

Now Dita felt respect for Nemesis, and her fear began to fade.

"It wasn't my initiative, but his—whom you already know. But I warn you: never speak of who sent me here. Otherwise… you won't survive the consequences." – Nemesis said darkly.

But this didn't intimidate Dita much.

"I won't say it, not even under torture!" – Dita said firmly.

No one would believe her anyway.

"Good girl. Now I'll take the body with me, but first I have instructions for you all." – said Nemesis.

Then, she summoned black smoke that wrapped around Murlus V's corpse and lifted it, pulling it toward her as if it were solid instead of vapor.

"Listen! Silence, all of you! I have something to announce!" – Nemesis shouted.

Upon hearing their savior, all the women immediately quieted down.

"From now on, this girl, Dita, will be the ruler of this planet! Don't worry about what the King will say—he will gladly approve it. After all, he hated Murlus V as much as you did, so he won't mourn his death!" – Nemesis declared.

Surprisingly, such a simple explanation was enough. The women cheered joyfully, applauding Dita. They didn't care how it happened—they just wanted her as their new ruler.

"With that said, I'll make sure to dispose of this trash's body. And don't worry about the soldiers outside—they're all dead. Only you remain in this castle. There will be no reprisals!" – Nemesis said.

The women were ecstatic. Who would have thought today would bring such blessings? All thanks to Nemesis, their savior.

After delivering the King's message, Nemesis turned to Dita.

"I… I don't know if I can be a good ruler…" – Dita admitted, overwhelmed by everything that had just happened.

"The King told me you are capable. That is why he appointed you. As for the weakened army, the King promised to send reinforcements in the coming days." – Nemesis said.

Nemesis was about to leave, but—

"One more thing. Return the girls who wish it to their home planets. They deserve to be with their families now that this reign of terror has ended." – said Nemesis.

"I'll do it! But before you go, I have a question…" – said Dita.

"Go ahead," – Nemesis replied.

She didn't care what it was, but listening cost her nothing.

"I… I'm a huge fan of Konjiki no Yami. Will I be able to visit her someday?" – Dita asked shyly.

Dita didn't know what the future held, but she knew one thing: she had not yet met her idol and romantic interest. So she asked Nemesis, who was in direct contact with the King, if someday she could meet her.

Looking at Dita's expression, Nemesis realized something.

"I don't mind informing the King about this. But… Konjiki no Yami is already engaged to another man, so don't entertain foolish illusions." – Nemesis said coldly.

Romance did not interest Nemesis, but she had to admit that Akira Sato intrigued her.

In fact, when the King contacted her with this favor, she only accepted on the condition that she could visit Earth whenever she wished. Why? Because, for the first time in years, she was interested in someone other than the King. Her fascination with Gid was short-lived, but her curiosity about Akira—and the incredible abilities she had heard he possessed—was only growing stronger. That was why she agreed: to gain free access to visit Akira whenever she desired. What she intended to do… only time would tell.
