Kael didn't respond immediately. He leaned back in his chair, eyes fixed on the edge of the desk, fingers tapping lowly against the polished wood. "I don't know." He admitted finally. "She's here. Injured. But there's no record of her. No past. No name beyond what she gave us. And yet…"
The man before her raised an eyebrow. "Yet you're keeping her."
He gave him a sidelong glance. "Wouldn't you?"
Coda smirked. "I might. But I also didn't find her fighting off muggers with a knife and holding a gun like a confused time traveler."
Kael exhaled, a trace of laugh escaping, but his expression remained tense. "I want to know the truth. I need to know. Until then… she stays."
