Both Mandy and I ran into the room with Mandy having entered it a few seconds before me.
As soon as I got into the room, I pushed against the door with my entire body and Mandy locked the door immediately with both of us hearing thuds against it the moment I pushed against the door.
"That... was way too close." Mandy said outlod with a frightened expression.
"Agreed, I don't even want to imagine what would have happened if we had stayed out there for just another 30 seconds."
After that we stayed quiet for a while, I leaned against a nearby wall and Mandy almost curled up on the ground, holding herself up with her back against the wall.
It was not long before we were reminded that we couldn't stay here indefinitely with many, loud and continuous scratching sounds against the only thing separating us and the horde of zombies.
I pushed against the wall from where I was leaning against and quickly began looking around, Mandy watched me for a moment before looking back where she had been, seemingly deep in thought.
As I looked around, the first thing that stood out to me was the emergency door made of mostly glass which could only be opened from our side by pushing the handle.
I turned my head to the right and looked to the fully stocked shelves, some had guns, others had bullets and attachments.
"... What do you think we should take?" I turned to face Mandy
She looked up at me and slowly stood up.
As Mandy approached, I slightly moved to the side, and she said, looking at what was in the shelf I had been looking in "We probably shouldn't take much, otherwise it'll be hard to move quickly."
"Will you keep using your shotgun or switch it for something else?"
"Good question" Mandy said, continuing a moment later "You know what? I think I'll keep this, I've gotten quite good at using it."
"Alright, then maybe you take a side-arm and I take both a primary weapon and side-arm?"
Mandy nodded "Yeah, sounds good. Let's be sure to take enough ammunition to last us a while."
We both began looking around for guns we could use, at first I picked up a long-range rifle, though after trying it out for a bit, I put it down, as it was much heavier than I had anticipated.
I looked over my shoulder and saw Mandy having trouble deciding between two side-arms. I went over and asked her "You need help deciding?"
"Oh, yeah, what do you think? Which should I take?"
I looked and there were two guns on the shelf , a revolver and a Colt M1911 with an attachment, unsure what it was meant for, I asked her.
"Oh, that's called a flash hider, it supposedly makes the flash from the muzzle smaller, though I've never used it so I don't know how well it works."
After a moment I responded, "The Colt M1911 is probably better with it having more ammunition capacity."
"But the revolver has higher caliber bullets which make it slightly more powerful."
"The revolver can only hold 6 bullets, while the Colt M1911 can hold 7, but it can be reloaded much quicker."
"Fair point I guess, let me think about it a bit more, you should find something for yourself though," Mandy said, looking at me.
"Good call, I'll do that now, "I turned my head and walked towards the automatic rifles, noting that the scratching at the door had become slightly more aggressive which Mandy had seemingly also noticed.
This time though, I saw something that intrigued me.
I picked up the AR-15 rifle and immediately felt a lot better holding and aiming it than the rifle I had picked up beforehand.
I looked around for some attachment for it to no avail, I found many attachments but nothing that could be both useful to have and could be used on this gun.
With the gun in hand, I walked over to Mandy who was holding the revolver and said: "I'm thinking of taking this, what do you think?" And showed her the gun I had taken a liking to.
She took the gun from my hands and inspected it only to return it to me a moment later saying "I think it's really good!"
I slightly smiled and put the gun to the side, and started to look for a handgun, soon to realise the amount of side-arms in here was almost pitiful.
I walked over to Mandy and remembered the handgun I had held before.
I picked up the handgun and aimed it to the wall, trying it out without shooting.
"What if I take this and you can take the revolver?" I asked Mandy.
"Yeah, sounds good!" She quickly responded, clutching her revolver before putting it into her holster around her waist.
At this moment, the sound of a hinge loosening could be heard. Both Mandy and I looked at each other before quickly grabbing everything we needed before escaping through the emergency push-to-open door.
"Oh! Take the ammunition you need!" I quickly shouted at Mandy, running to the ammunition shelf.
Mandy hastily ran over and we began to put as many ammunition packs as we could in a short period of time.
Quickly, I ran to the door and whispered to Mandy "Let's go! Quietly!"
After putting one more ammunition pack into my bag, she picked it up and handed it to me, moving to the door.
As the room gradually grew quiet, the sound of the zombies continuously scratching and banging the door grew along with the sound of the hinges loosening.
As quietly as possible, I opened the door and signalled for Mandy to exit.
Mandy peered outside for a few moments, looking both sides of the street we were on before heading out, signalling for me to leave.
I slowly walked out, closing the door as quietly as I could.
"Where do we go now? We have to go quickly before they realise we're gone and we are chased again, "Mandy asked
"Let's go to right for now, I'm not entirely sure where we are, but we might encounter some landmark or something."
Mandy agreed and we began our escape, as we walked we could hear the scratching distance as we kept walking away.
"How long do you think it'll take for them to realise we're not there anymore?" Mandy curiously asked.
"I really don't know, but let's assume sooner rather than later."
As we walked, we began to talk like we did earlier in the day; the sunset slowly began to come into the view, a while later we started hearing sounds from behind.
"Fuck, it's them! They realised already! Run!" I told Mandy, beginning to pick up my pace.
Mandy immediately began to run alongside me with the zombies slowly but quickly in number coming into view, before a small open space appeared in front of us... something felt horribly wrong.
As I was looking behind us at the zombies, Mandy immediately stopped dead in her tracks and said out loud in a shaky voice "W- what is that?" Pointing her finger in front of where I was running to.
