At the border of Takigakure, Uchiha Kai's figure flickered, appearing ghostlike at the edge of a forest.
Kimimaro followed, his red cloud-patterned cloak torn in several places.
His hawk-like eyes, however, showed no fatigue.
His sharp gaze fixed on the forest in the distance.
Whoosh, whoosh!
The sound of projectiles ripped through the air.
Countless black shuriken rained down like a storm.
As they approached, a low roar echoed from the forest.
"Explode!"
BOOM!
The approaching kunai, adorned with explosive tags, ignited. A series of low explosions followed.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A wave of intense heat rolled outwards.
Surrounding trees were engulfed in flames, and Uchiha Kai and Kimimaro were caught in the blast.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!"
Three figures emerged from the trees, their hands moving continuously. They rapidly gathered fiery chakra in their mouths, unleashing another barrage of attacks.
Three fireballs, each carrying immense power, hurtled towards Kai and Kimimaro.
Rumble, rumble!
Explosions echoed incessantly. A wall of flames engulfed the surrounding forest for hundreds of meters, crackling and burning fiercely.
Thick smoke billowed into the sky, the firelight illuminating the headbands of the three Takigakure shinobi.
"Mizunami-sama, capturing an Uchiha brat attracted so many pursuers.
This kid's identity must be significant," a young shinobi in his early twenties said, a hint of apprehension in his voice.
The memory of their recent pursuit sent shivers down his spine.
"Hmph, a child who awakened the three-tomoe Sharingan at age seven.
That talent is top-tier, even among the Uchiha," said Mizunami, a seemingly thin Takigakure shinobi with eyes that radiated ruthlessness and experience. He was a veteran among the Takigakure shinobi.
"Mizunami-sama, among the pursuers, there was a young Uchiha. Are we provoking… that rumored individual?" another shinobi asked hesitantly.
That rumored individual?
Mizunami and the other shinobi's expressions changed.
They knew exactly who their companion was referring to: the Konoha renegade who had shocked the entire shinobi world.
The rumors of his exploits were enough to send chills down anyone's spine.
"Hmph, that guy is preoccupied with the Five Kage Summit, which is aimed at dealing with him," Mizunami sneered. "By the time he's free to retaliate, we'll already have the Sharingan."
"If he dares to attack us, we'll use Takigakure's alliance with the Five Great Nations as a shield. He'll face the wrath of the entire shinobi world."
Mizunami's thorough analysis reassured his companions.
But their relief was short-lived. Their eyes widened as they looked at the fire-engulfed area.
"L-Lord Mizunami, there's a giant bone cocoon there!"
Mizunami froze, startled. He looked towards the sound, but a chilling, youthful voice cut through the air.
"You think our master would fear a Five Kage Summit? How naive," Kimimaro emerged from the ground.
He spun a bone, launching a spear with blinding speed towards Mizunami.
The sudden attack caught the two young Takigakure shinobi off guard.
They felt a flicker of relief; Mizunami's death would buy them time.
However, that thought was instantly shattered. A powerful hand, like an iron clamp, seized their shoulders.
They were yanked forward, serving as human shields.
Pshhh!
Blood sprayed as the two young shinobi's eyes widened in shock.
They saw the bone spear piercing their abdomens, their lifeblood draining away.
They likely never imagined their respected superior would discard them like pawns.
"Explode!"
A roar, laced with urgency, echoed. Kimimaro's brow furrowed as he saw explosive tags plastered on the two corpses.
Before he could escape, a wave of intense heat washed over him.
BOOM!
Fire erupted into the sky. The powerful blast sent even Mizunami flying.
Though seemingly disheveled, Mizunami was unharmed. He turned and fled without hesitation. The words he'd heard earlier, the mention of "master," gripped his heart.
"Impossible. That guy wouldn't be here. I must have misheard," Mizunami muttered.
But as he ran, his words changed.
"No, I must be seeing things. He couldn't possibly be here." Mizunami stopped abruptly.
The bone cocoon in the flames opened like a flower, revealing a calm face and blood-red nine-tomoe Sharingan.
The slender figure exuded an aura of mystery.
If Mizunami had to describe it, it would be: unfathomable.
"Master, what should we do with them?" Kimimaro's cold voice echoed.
Mizunami, still shocked, looked behind him.
The sight that met his eyes was terrifying.
Uchiha Kai's red cloud cloak was torn, revealing Kimimaro's youthful form. But the bone armor covering his body and the grotesque bone spurs on his back were truly horrifying.
"Monsters! You're monsters!" Mizunami panicked.
A six or seven-year-old Kimimaro had been nearly impossible to kill; the unfathomable Blood-Colored Asura was even more terrifying.
He regretted provoking such powerful beings for a mere pair of three-tomoe Sharingan.
"Heh, hold off. I admire his 'sacrifice the lesser for the greater' approach," Kai chuckled. He had been planning how to locate Itachi Uchiha, only to be ambushed upon entering Takigakure.
And judging by the situation, another Konoha team was also pursuing Itachi.
