"Yes!" Luna barked. "Ugly, slimy worm monsters! They eat babies, Kelpie. Babies!"
He gasped. His hands trembled.
"And Vlad Jr. says they might come again. Drake is scared. Vlad Jr. is not going either. I was ready to go fight them, but—ugh! My pack pups need me for something important. So I'll stay to help them."
Kelpie looked around, suddenly feeling very, very small.
"But… if you don't come… who will protect us?" he whispered, barely loud enough to be heard.
"You'll be fine. Just don't go!" Luna snapped, not unkindly. "And call that Rocky too. If he shows up and turns into a rock, it'll be annoying to drag him out again!"
Kelpie nodded quickly, even though Luna couldn't see him. "O-Okay. I won't go either…"
"Good. Stay home. And don't forget to eat sea-fruit. It makes your mind faster," she said like a responsible alpha, then hung up.
Kelpie stared at the phone.
