She paused.
"…Then I will also take leave," she muttered with a huff, trying not to let the nervous energy in her chest leak into her tone. "Because I respect you both. Even though I'm not scared at all!"
On the other end, there was a moment of silence. Vlad Jr. didn't answer right away.
Was he going to say, "Okay, let's go"?
She waited for him to say no. Even though she was scared, she didn't want him to know.
"No, Luna," Vlad Jr. said firmly. "There's not just one worm. There are many. Otherwise the kindergarten wouldn't have been closed."
Her ears twitched sharply. That single sentence made something flip in her belly.
"So we are in actual danger?" she whispered, her voice dropping to a hushed breath, like she was afraid the worms might somehow hear.
"Very," Vlad Jr. confirmed, sounding exactly like a tiny military commander who knew more than he let on.
