Chapter 88 - Fix your faces

BO4 (2 - 1) VFB 67th minute

The corner is taken, and Stuttgart defend it properly by heading the ball out. The ball slowly approaches Che and he thinks about their faces.

How he hates looking at something like them in games like this. The ball suddenly becomes slower as it approaches his chest.

Halil approaches behind him in the middle of pitch. Che controls the ball with his chest and the Bayer players are running back to defense.

After control the ball with his chest he does a turn after dropping it to his feet. Immediately after turning he drops his shoulder and feints towards his right losing Halil who went the opposite direction.

He starts a run from Stuttgart's half, and accelerates forward. He runs with the ball down the middle, with Speidel running towards the middle.

Halil tries catching up to him, and Che changes directions towards the left and runs right under Halil's nose.

Who tries to avoid commiting another foul but and Che darts past him. He continues his run through the middle.

He has two more defender and another midfielder who caught up to him on his right. He also sees Speidel in the corner of him eye.

But he carries on running, and now in the center circle the midfielder approaches him with speed, Che realizes that if the midfielder gets closer he'll be forced to stop the counter.

So he sneaks a beautiful pass towards Speidel, and the ball drifts past one defender as he is running back to defend.

The defender closest to Speidel on the right, he tries to slide tackle the pass but it's too late and the ball reaches Speidel on the right wing.

Speidel didn't expect the ball to get to him and his first touch is too hard, and he is forced to chase the ball along with the other defender.

Before Che made the pass, the midfielder attempted a slide tackle trying to stop his pass, but the tackle was to late and he clashed with Che without the ball and the referee signals an advantage.

Meantime Speidel gets to the ball first with the defender close to him on his left. The two of them run next to each other while Speidel runs with the ball.

The closer the two of them are getting to the penalty box, the defender start becoming more physical with him.

But Speidel stands his ground and continues his run, and the keeper also starts coming out of his line.

Speidel has the goalkeeper closing in and the defender trying to gets him off the ball. He decides to shoot the ball before finally falling off balance.

The keeper tips the ball as it heads towards the bottom left corner, but the ball hits the post and goes out for a corner again.

Speidel stays on the ground screaming to himself. Che stays on the ground while medics run towards him.

The referee gives the midfielder a yellow card since his feet were on the ground when commiting to the tackle.

The medics take his boot off and remove the sock to attend his tibia (or shin bone) on his left leg. They press on it asking if it hurts, and Che says it does.

''But I can still play though.''

After waiting for a minute the keeper asks him to be tended to outside the pitch and they do so. After two more minutes Che gets up finally ready to get back in.

He gets himself on the pitch on the right wing next to Speidel, and Speidel drifts in towards the center. The ball is passed to Che and jolts to his right before cutting in with his left.

He runs down the center towards the center and looks for passing options, and none of his teammates are in good positions.

He runs towards the goal and from 22 meters from the goal, he finesses the shot towards goal. The shot doesn't have much power on it and curls towards the top corner.

The ball goes over the ball and Che gets a pain on his tibia. There is still pain from the tackle, and he starts rubbing it.

Five minutes goes by and Che's movements around the pitch become slower, and the pain starts irritating him even more.

And as the ball goes out of play the referee blows the whistle, and he looks at the bench and sees the number 19 being subbed.

VfB Stuttgart U17 substitution:

Off: #19 Che Louw (False Nine) On: #17 Brayann Kenmoe (Attacker)

His heart completely sinks when he sees this, and he walks off with disappointment in his face. He walks off and the coach approaches him.

''I know you're disappointed but just know that I'm proud of you.''

He talks for even more, but the words aren't registering for Che, he just nods along to whatever he is saying.

''Good job out there.'' And he pats him on the back.

Che walks off and goes to sit on an empty seat on the bench. He wasn't happy at all; he could've done way more than he did for his team today.

He lowers his sock and his shin is swollen. The medics attend to him and slowly start rubbing the swollen part.

He doesn't feel the pain due to the adrenalin surge from the match and the fact that he was only thinking about how he let his teammates down.

He wanted to do so much more as player on the pitch, but now he has to watch his teammates from outside.
