Chapter 38 - The First Strike

‎The city lights outside Ava's apartment glimmered like distant stars, but inside, the room was alive with a different kind of fire. Liam slept soundly in his crib, oblivious to the battles brewing in the adult world.

‎Ava leaned against the kitchen counter, laptop open, eyes scanning the documents Ethan had pulled from Daniel Okoro earlier. Every file, every transaction, every carefully hidden secret had one purpose: to take Claudia down.

‎Ethan entered quietly, coffee in hand, his presence grounding her. "You look like a general planning a siege," he said, smiling.

‎Ava smirked. "Maybe I am. And you're my lieutenant."

‎Ethan set the coffee down, crossing the space between them. He brushed a strand of hair from her face, thumb tracing her jawline. "You're dangerous like this," he murmured.

‎"I know," she said, voice low. "And so are you."

‎They shared a quiet smile one that said everything they'd survived, everything they'd conquered together.

‎Cole Dynamics – Late Evening

‎Claudia sat in her office, the heels of her shoes tapping softly against the polished marble floor. Victoria hovered, clipboard in hand, trying to mask impatience.

‎"They haven't moved yet," Victoria said.

‎Claudia tilted her head, lips curling into a faint, knowing smile. "They will. They always do. But when they do… it will be on my terms or not at all."

‎Her phone buzzed. A single message. She opened it. Eyes narrowed. A slight frown. Someone was striking back someone had found her weakness.

‎Ava's Apartment – The Strategy Room

‎Ethan leaned over the laptop, pointing at a series of scanned documents. "This transfer here," he said, voice tense, "it connects Claudia to the offshore account in Geneva. She's been siphoning money and redirecting it to shell corporations."

‎Ava tapped her chin. "And if we expose it?"

‎Ethan's eyes darkened. "She loses leverage. And we gain truth… and control."

‎Ava exhaled, heart racing with anticipation. "Then we do it. Tonight."

‎The Plan

‎They worked quickly, carefully, like a pair of predators circling the same prey. Each email drafted, each photograph analyzed, each digital footprint traced it all had one purpose: to corner Claudia with undeniable proof.

‎Hours passed. Liam's soft breathing in the other room reminded them of what they were fighting for. But the thrill of strategy of finally taking the fight to Claudia gave them a surge of adrenaline that made even their quiet glances feel electric.

‎At one point, Ava glanced up at Ethan, her lips brushing his shoulder as she whispered, "I love that you fight with me… and for me."

‎Ethan's fingers threaded through hers. "Always. You're my family, Ava. My heart. My anchor. And no one....no one breaks us."

‎Cole Estate – Midnight

‎Claudia finally realized her empire was being challenged. She picked up her phone, calling Victoria with a sharp edge in her tone.

‎"They're moving against me," she said, eyes flashing. "I don't care how they won't win."

‎Victoria hesitated. "But what if they've already…"

‎Claudia's eyes narrowed. "Then we adapt. We survive. And we strike harder."

‎Ava's Apartment – The Strike

‎Ethan pressed the final key. Ava's heart pounded as the screen lit up with everything: transfers, emails, threats, evidence of manipulation, every hidden truth Claudia had buried for years.

‎Ava exhaled, voice fierce. "This… this ends tonight."

‎Ethan wrapped his arms around her from behind, pressing a kiss to her temple. "Together," he whispered.

‎"Together," Ava echoed.

‎They hit send simultaneously.

‎Across the city, the first domino fell. Claudia's carefully constructed empire of lies began to crack, tremble, and fracture.

‎And for the first time in years, Ava and Ethan knew they were not just surviving. They were winning.
