Chapter 74 - Did You Ever Regret?

Nicole was born in the Starry Kingdom but had to leave at the age of ten due to the Civil War. Since she lived most her life in Lukia she adapted to their culture and usage of soul energy therefore instead of having a grimoire she had a sorcery ability. Her parents did not have a grimoire instead they were master scroll crafters and potion brewers.

Her brother on the other hand was a prodigy, who became a captain of his military batch:- 007, by the age of twenty the youngest to do so. His grimoire had a Crescent Moon shaped logo on the book. When a Magician gets their Grimoire a logo appears on the Grimoire that represents their soul and their fate. His name was Adam Albaria.

In the Pledge of Allegiance of the Military, sixteen years ago when Nicole Albaria was a seven year old girl.

"Adam Albaira. Do you solemnly pledge to serve the Starry Kingdom, the God of the Night Sky or Stars, and the Librarian of the Holy Stars, knowing that your life would be put in conditions that will assure safety for people around you, and that your soul would be used to help everyone and anyone around you?" asked a man wearing a white dress with a rectangular white cap with a golden necklace and a golden headband that appeared across his forehead.

"Yes, I solemnly pledge to do so," replied Adam Albaria as he bowed.

Adam was a normal looking human with black hair, hazel brown eyes, very fit and was holding a black and white Grimoire with his left hand. He looked like his father with his eyes and he had his mother's smile.

Nicole on the other hand looked like a copy and paste of her mother with the way her hair and eyes were.

As soon as Adam completed his pledge, everyone got up and started to clap as he received a star and a badge that had the Flag of the Starry Kingdom on it. It was a silver star with smaller white flowers in a black background.

A young Nicole tugged on her mother's red dress and her mother leaned down to listen to Nicole.

"Mommy! That's big brother!" exclaimed Nicole with her two ponytails.

Nicole's mother's smile softened as her father had a look of admiration and pride while he looked at his son and then she responded with:-

"Yes that is,"

In the Albaria House in Arklia.

Nicole's father slammed the dinner table as Nicole peaked from her room using the door to hide herself and railings of the stairs that led to her room as support.

"You will kill yourself! Do you really want this?" asked Nicole's father.

"He is a child, father! A simple child! They want to use him for murder and horrific things! And not only that if I don't head out there so many people will die!" fought back Adam slamming his Grimoire on the table.

Nicole's mother ran from the kitchen to see what the commotion was and tried to calm things down. First she tried to talk some sense into Adam's brain stating that 'The Military is an honor for you to work in, but real wars are different you will lose your life,'

"I'll give it up with a snap of my finger if it meant for the safety of people, Mother," replied Adam with a gentle smile.

Adam was always like this. What did Nicole expect? She had a small hope that Adam would change and stay at their house or even retire from the military eventually but that day never came. He fought for his people until the very end. The Crescent Moon is beautiful until it disappears.

Back in the closet of the apartment in the war torn Starry Kingdom.

The two sides that were in this conflict were an extremist group that demanded the freedom of their religious priest after he got locked up in prison for attempting to change the corruption in the kingdom and the government trying to control things. In reality they ended up killing the religious priest to scare the extremists but in reality that riled them up more as before his death, his speech unearthed armies and hundreds of people to fight for the extremists, while the government had to deal with the consequences.

What did the extremists fight for? Well that was for the custody of the single strongest man in the Starry Kingdom, Alan Normal.

His Grimoire was different from the rest. He got it when he accidentally stumbled into the Library of the Holy Stars and at the age of seven without passing a single class in his Magic University he managed to get a Quadruple Fold Grimoire.

Normally a Grimoire would be of four types, the first type was a Unobric Fold Grimoire which meant they could only use one of the different flower's abilities while they had the Grimoire at once. A Dibric Fold Grimoire meant they could use two different flower abilities at once, a Tribric Fold Grimoire can use three different flower abilities at once, and the Quadruple Fold Grimoire can use all four simultaneously.

Alan Normal was the first Quadruple Fold Grimoire user in the history of the Starry Kingdom and as a child he was fought over by the extremists who wanted to use his power to conquer other lands and the government who wanted to give him a proper life while helping out the government grow by themselves without relying on him too much. In order words the government was jealous of Alan and initially planned to kill him but since that failed they wanted to not use Alan for anything and rely on him too much as it would taint their reputation for using someone who is not from the Royal Families as a Calamity.

So why did the extremists raid land in the Starry Kingdom then? Well that was because of the one and only death of the extremist group's leader and the kidnapping of an eleven year old Alan Normal.

The men walked up the stairs with the creaking noise of the wood accompanying them as they slowly opened the door of the room where everyone was hiding. As they pushed it open the fragile hinge broke and the door fell down with a loud thud.

Nicole took a deep breath as her parents held her tightly and closed their eyes.

Then they started to storm the entire room and the men started to slowly open the door of the closet.

A tiny flicker of light came from outside as the men were starting to be visible.

Grey helmets as they seemed like they were knights from the mediaeval age. Steel armor that was made to withstand the complex bombs and technology of the current era. This was a stark contrast to the green camos that the Starry Kingdom Military wears.

They opened the door and Nicole closed her eyes one last time accepting her fate. But fate had other plans for her that day.

A piercing spear stabbed through one of the extremist's shoulders as it went outside the other shoulder.

Adam Albaria was here. With burning red eyes he rushed towards the last extremist and brought him down with a powerful slam to the ground as it broke the floor and made them fall to the ground below.

With a terrifying white aura that symbolises end of everything, Adam Albaria landed a crucial blow to the last extremist and then rushed outside and created a magic bomb that exploded the tank.

He ran through all the chaos and saved a few children and created a safety wall around them as more tanks and more extremists came.

The extremists in the tank made a radio call to their head of operations Josh Ballin.

"Sir, Adam Albaria is in Arklia," said one of the extremists.

"..." There was no response from the other side. After thorough contemplating and time, there was a response.

"Kill his family and kill him at the end," said Josh Ballin as he hung up the radio.

The tank changed course and lined up their shot at the house that belonged to the Albaria's.

Adam looked at the tank with furious eyes as he unleashed his soul energy output to his maximum. It froze everyone in a hundred meter radius and he unleashed a spell from his Grimoire.

A storm of white bright spears crashed down onto the tank killing everyone in it and causing a crater in the road. He made sure there were no civilians that could get hurt before unleashing the spell and then he flew back down to see a couple dozen of extremists running towards him.

"The strongest of humans can still never beat the weakest of Gods," said Adam.

As they inched closer to his 100 meter radius they instantly froze. Adam snapped his fingers as he went inside each and everyone's brain and imploded their brain with information. This was the ability of the spell in his Tribric Fold Grimoire that used up a blue flower, yellow flower, and a green flower for amplification.

Then Adam glanced at the house he lived in for so long as he saw that he was too late. Blinded by the people he was fighting he could not see his own family under the rubble. He rushed forth and tried to save his family and glanced to see where the rocket that destroyed it came from. It was from a launcher from another intact building's roof. Adam destroyed the building with a single strike before finding his sister in the rubble. He brushed her hair and started to cry. He looked at his unconscious mother and father as he could not feel their breaths or heartbeat anymore. Nicole on the other hand barely managed to survive.

Then…A sword pierced through Adam's chest as he fell down to the ground with tears that have quenched the thirst for blood.

Before dying he remembered one thing. A conversation between him and his dear sister before he left for this tragic war. They say that after someone dies the brain replays the best memories for seven seconds. Maybe that is why in every lifetime Adam Albaria would always have memories with his sister.

"Big Bro, did you ever regret going to the military?" asked Nicole.

"Never. Not even once," replied Adam with the brightest smile on his face.

Adam with the last ounce of energy he had looked at Nicole as she just barely survived. He did not want his little sister to be anywhere near this country anymore. As he tried to use his Grimoire to teleport his sister away from the riots, a voice was heard from behind him.

"Even before you die, you still think about your family?" asked Alan Normal.

Adam started to laugh a little hearing Alan's voice as he bled on the floor.

"Yes, you'll know when you stop being their puppet," said Adam.

"Any final wishes?" asked Alan.

"Make my sister have a peaceful life in Lukia and nothing should happen to her," said Adam.

"I shall do so," replied Alan.

Alan's bright platinum sword that shone like the moon in the sky was brought down as it cut Adam once more. When Adam died even the moon dimmed and backed away from the sky.
