"So, according to this contract, you want me to marry you?" Gilbert set the papers down, his gaze dark and piercing as he looked at her.
Claire froze in astonishment.
What nonsense was this man imagining? When had she ever entertained such a ridiculous idea?
"What are you talking about? When did I ever say I wanted you to marry me? Don't be absurd." Claire's voice was sharp.
"But that's exactly what it says here." Gilbert tapped the clause and explained, "Up until now, among all the women in my life, the only one who has ever earned the approval of those four elders is you. So naturally, the only person I can marry is you."
Claire's face flushed scarlet.
