Thud, thud. Two dull impacts. Claire crouched and drove two heavy punches into Emma's chest, the blows making her eyes roll white at the edges.
"Emma," Claire said coolly, "from now on you'll answer my questions straight, or you'll only taste more pain. For a woman as ruthless as you, poison must be met with poison."
Rage and humiliation swam in Emma's eyes.
Claire stared at her with an expression of indifferent menace. "Three days ago, at the Taylor estate, did you set me up behind my back?"
Emma's eyes bulged, the whites dominating, yet she offered no answer.
"If it was you, nod. If not, shake your head." Claire's gaze narrowed to a slit.
Emma made only muffled whimpers, neither nodding nor shaking, refusal and silence.
A terrible, cold smile crept across Claire's face. The memories of the suffering she'd endured surged up, and her eyes went blood-red.
