"Hilary! Hilary! Where are you?" Adam and Dean's anxious voices echoed down from the stairs.
Just then, some adults who had heard the child's heart-wrenching cries rushed over and soon spotted Hilary.
"Oh dear, how did this little girl end up here? Looks like she fell down the stairs, poor thing."
A woman hurriedly picked Hilary up. "Whose child is this?"
Adam and Dean, hearing the adults' voices, quickly ran downstairs.
"Hilary!" Adam rushed forward and pulled her into his arms, his voice trembling. "Are you okay?"
Hilary finally caught her breath and cried out, "Adam!"
"Don't be scared, Hilary. I'm here. I'll protect you," Adam murmured, gently patting her back.
