Chapter 25 - 024: In the silence, I found you

DAMIEN'S POV

The gates clanged shut behind us with a heavy finality. I stepped off the jeep, dust and blood still clinging to me from the mission.

Xavier barely spared a word before muttering something about the shower and vanishing down the hallway. My mind was already racing toward Eva.

I hadn't seen her since the breakfast. Every hour away from her had felt like a needle under my skin. I needed to see her. Hear her voice. Feel her breathe near me.

I needed her like I needed air.

I headed straight to my quarters, ignoring the warriors who bowed and greeted me along the way. I pushed the door open and—

She wasn't there.

Instead, Selene stood by the window, her back turned, arms wrapped around herself as though posing for pity.

She turned the moment she heard me and rushed over, panic written all over her face. "Damien," she said breathlessly. "Thank the moon you're back."

I narrowed my eyes. "Where is Eva?"
