Before Tanjiro could finish, Ryuji covered his mouth and dragged him into a room.
"Kanao, Tanjiro needs a quiet space to think. Please wait a moment," Ryuji said, peeking out at the bewildered Kanao.
Then, he slammed the door shut.
Kanao actually waited patiently.
If Ryuji hadn't intervened, Tanjiro would have completely rejected Kanao.

Ryuji wanted to kick some sense into Tanjiro, but he restrained himself.

"Don't even start. I know you were the last one to arrive before the Infinity Train mission, and you spent that time with Kanao, didn't you?" Ryuji countered.
"Ryuji-senpai, that was just a simple farewell," Tanjiro desperately explained.
"Even Zenitsu, who's so obsessed with beautiful women, didn't go out of his way for a farewell," Ryuji retorted, leaving Tanjiro speechless, like someone eating bitter melon—suffering in silence.
Though Tanjiro believed it was a simple farewell, that farewell was the moment he entered Kanao's heart.
