Tanjiro wasn't there. What should she do now? Kanao felt completely lost.
Seeing Kanao's silence, Rengoku sighed inwardly. He knew Kanao's personality; she was a difficult girl to communicate with.
"Did Ryuji send you to find Tanjiro?" Rengoku pressed.
Kanao ignored him and silently turned to leave, confusing Rengoku further. He could only watch her go.
"What a strange child," Rengoku muttered, shaking his head.
Kanao returned to the Butterfly Mansion, feeling dejected. In the living room of the back courtyard, she saw Tanjiro talking to Ryuji.
While Kanao was out, Tanjiro had returned from his mission and eagerly sought out Ryuji at the Butterfly Mansion to visit Nezuko.
Nezuko lay beside Tanjiro, holding his hand to her face.
Seeing Tanjiro, Kanao froze, unable to approach. She didn't know what to say to him in this situation. She felt a sudden wave of shyness.
Some time passed. Tanjiro helped Nezuko back into her wooden box and carried it on his back, preparing to leave.
As Tanjiro walked out of the room, his eyes met Kanao's. She snapped out of her daze.
"Kanao, it's been a while! How have you been?" Tanjiro greeted her with a smile.
Kanao stared at Tanjiro, offering no reply.
Seeing her silence, Tanjiro, who had hoped she would have changed, felt a little awkward.
"Why don't you flip a coin to decide?" Tanjiro suggested.
"It's been a while, Tanjiro!" Before Tanjiro could finish, Kanao replied directly, without flipping a coin.
Seeing Kanao speak without relying on the coin, Tanjiro smiled happily. "That's great, Kanao! You can make decisions without flipping a coin now!"
"Um... I... well..."
Kanao seemed to want to say something but struggled to find the words, stammering.
Seeing her hesitation, Tanjiro looked at her with concern. "Kanao, what's wrong?"
Suddenly, Kanao grabbed Tanjiro tightly, startling him. "Kanao, what are you doing?"
"Ryuji-nii-san said if you meet someone you can't forget, you should hold onto them! I can't forget you, so I'm going to hold onto you!" Kanao repeated Ryuji's words to Tanjiro.
Hearing this, Tanjiro turned to look at Ryuji, who was awkwardly emerging from the room. "Ryuji-senpai, what did you say to Kanao?"
Ryuji coughed. At that moment, Kanao spoke up. "Ryuji-nii-san and Shinobu-nee-san look so happy and warm together. I can feel how happy Shinobu-nee-san is. I long for that feeling too. Tanjiro, you told me to follow my heart. This is what my heart wants!"
