Chapter 9 - Chapter 9:

The light of generosity emanated from the mirror where Laura was reflected, dispelling the darkness of avarice that flooded the Hall of Mirrors. Greed's many grotesque reflections flickered and vanished , retreating before the unexpected power of selfless kindness. The chorus of sadistic laughter and menacing growls gradually fell silent, replaced by a tense, expectant silence.

Ethan and Marty watched the scene with wonder and hope. They had seen Laura confront her own distorted reflection, projecting an emotion opposite to greed, and had witnessed how the legion of mirrored monsters began to crumble before this act of courage and selflessness. Could it be that the key to defeating Greed lay precisely in the denial of their own obsession , in the power of generosity?

Greed, the original central figure, the one who had emerged from the mirrors, stepped back a few paces, staring at Laura with a mixture of fury and disbelief. His bright eyes sparked with suppressed rage, his clenched teeth growled silently , his grotesque face twisted in a grimace of frustration and bewilderment. He seemed disturbed , bewildered by Laura's unexpected resilience, unable to grasp the power of generosity in a world dominated by greed.

" No … it can't be!" hissed Greed , his voice venomous, " Generosity … has no power here ! This is the kingdom of avarice! Here only greed reigns! Your kindness … your stupidity … will not affect me ! "

But her hesitant tone, the doubt in her eyes, betrayed her uncertainty. The light of generosity, however weak , was beginning to crack her labyrinth of mirrors, to destabilize her macabre game, to undermine the power of her own obsession .

Greed reacted furiously , attempting to regain control of the situation and reassert his dominance in the Hall of Mirrors. With a cry of rage, he slammed his tiny , grotesque fist against the music box . The melody abruptly stopped, breaking the hypnotic spell that enveloped the hall . The reddish lights flickered violently again, and Greed's distorted reflections multiplied in the mirrors once more, reinforcing the legion of mirrored monsters trying to smother the light of generosity emanating from Laura's reflection.

The hall was once again plunged into visual and audible chaos, with the multiple Greeds attacking from all directions, their sadistic laughter echoing once more , the oppressive and threatening atmosphere intensifying to the limit . The power of Greed refused to be subdued, fighting to regain its dominance in the maze of mirrors, trying to extinguish the flame of generosity before it could spread and consume everything.

Laura felt the pull of darkness rushing back at her, the threatening reflections drawing closer once more, madness and terror attempting to invade her mind. But she didn't give up . She kept her gaze fixed on her true reflection in the mirror, strengthening her intention to be generous, projecting her will for selfless kindness even more strongly , refusing to give in to the advance of greed.

" No , Greed!" Laura cried , her voice firm and resonant, defying the chorus of sadistic laughter , " Generosity does have power here ! It has power everywhere! It is stronger than your greed, stronger than your darkness, stronger than your avarice !"

And with each word, the light of her reflection intensified, spreading like luminous waves throughout the hall of mirrors, illuminating the shadows, dissipating the darkness, weakening Greed's reflections, breaking its illusory and threatening power.

The many Greeds began to retreat again, merging with the mirrors, disappearing one by one, retreating before the unstoppable force of generosity. The chorus of sadistic laughter turned into a pitiful murmur, the menacing growls into impotent moans, the legion of mirrored monsters into vanished phantoms.

The hall of mirrors fell silent again, now illuminated by a soft, warm light emanating from the mirror in which Laura was reflected. The mirrored walls regained their original form, once again reflecting reality without distortion or threat. The music box remained silent on the velvet table, motionless and muted , losing its hypnotic and gloomy charm . The circle of gold coins slowly dispersed, losing its tempting and haunting shine.

Only one figure of Greed remained in the hall , the original one, the one that had emerged from among the mirrors, now visible in all its smallness and grotesqueness .

He was like a deflated puppet, a withered remnant of the grand and menacing figure that had dominated the Hall of Mirrors moments before. His skin, once gleaming and almost metallic , now seemed wrinkled and dull, like old parchment. His glowing eyes, which had sparked with fury and unquenchable greed, now flickered weakly , like embers about to be extinguished. Even his sadistic laughter , which had once echoed with menace, had been reduced to a hoarse, ragged, almost pathetic gasp .

Laura, Ethan, and Marty watched the dwindling figure with a mixture of caution and relief. The generous light emanating from the mirror continued to flood the room , bathing the mirrored walls in a warm, soft glow . The silence was almost absolute, broken only by the three friends' labored breathing and Greed 's faint moans . The oppressive, chaotic atmosphere of the mirror maze had dissipated , replaced by a sense of tense calm, as if the storm had passed but the threat had not yet been completely extinguished.

" Is ... is he gone?" he whispered . Marty , his voice shaking, looked at Ethan for confirmation . Ethan frowned , his eyes still on Greed.

"I don't think so," Ethan replied , quietly , "Look... it 's still there . "

Laura kept her gaze fixed on the mirror, concentrating her strength on projecting generosity . She could feel Greed's power diminishing, but she also sensed a last vestige of malice in the small , grotesque figure. It was as if Greed were waiting, gathering strength, or perhaps s ... plotting something.

Suddenly, the small figure of Greed lifted its wrinkled face and looked directly at Laura. Its flickering eyes focused with a spark of old malice. A twisted smile, vaguely reminiscent of the menacing sneer from earlier, played across its dry lips. And in a surprisingly strong, though still slightly husky , voice, Greed spoke :

.
