~Micheal's POV
After my final check-up of the evening, I tucked my stethoscope back into my coat pocket and glanced at the hallway clock. 8:37 PM. The ward was quieting down for the night, a soft hum of machines and distant muffled voices the only sounds.
I should've gone home.
But my feet didn't head for the parking lot. Instead, they took me down the general ward wing, past the softly lit murals and the scent of lavender disinfectant. I didn't even have to think about it.
I stopped at Room 14, Mia's room.
I cracked the door open quietly and peeked in.
She was asleep.
The small bedside lamp bathed the room in a gentle golden hue. Her little hands were tucked under her cheek, and her breathing was soft and even. There was a storybook lying open beside her, The Little Prince. I smiled.
