[POV: Solenne]
The water was already steaming when they arrived, and the scent of fragrant bath oils and soaps permeated the humid air. There was even a plate of refreshments sitting on a small table beside the basin! It was beyond luxurious.
Solenne didn't question how the omegas knew what to do without Ruvan speaking with them. Many things didn't make sense, but it didn't matter to her anymore.
She only watched as Ruvan leaned against the low stone wall surrounding the candlelit, spring-fed basin, stripped off his bloodied shirt, and exhaled deeply.
He hadn't looked her in the eye since he held her wrist too tightly… Not since he told her he would kill her.
Solenne understood why. She wouldn't be able to forgive herself if she were in his shoes, but she still hated it.
It wasn't his fault he was haunted… or, maybe it was his fault, but it had been over a thousand years—surely he didn't need to suffer any longer.
