"Well, at least I'm foxy." Maya joked to herself as she gazed at the large mirror before her.
A young woman about 5'6 feet with curly, red hair and a curvy body covered in a skimpy nightgown stared back at her. Red fox ears sat atop of her messy hair and one of her nightgown straps fell off her pale shoulder.
A dainty reached out to touch the mirror, confirming that Maya was indeed not going crazy. She really was this person… Well, fox shifter now.
"I still can't believe this…" Maya sighed to herself. "I've really isekai'd."
As an avid otome isekai fan, Maya had joked multiple times about transmigrating into a fantasy romance novel with friends. However, to think she'd go to bed one night and wake up in another world.
It was too much!
At first it was exciting to think she'd be in a novel, but then reality quickly hit her. She wasn't sure what novel she was in. The bedroom she woke up in was like every other fantasy romance bedroom.
Massive, filled with furniture and way too shiny with all the fancy ornaments around. In conclusion it reeked of wealth, something she, an average person, could never come near.
And unlike the female leads in otome isekai stories, one glance at her looks did nothing to clue her in as to where she was. Guess that was what happens when you've read hundreds of stories and are bad at remembering descriptions.
Of course, I might not be in some fantasy romance novel at all. Maya mused. Let's just hope this isn't in the horror genre. Otherwise, I'll be the first to die…
"Lady Finn!" A voice suddenly called out. "What are you doing up? You should've called for me!"
Maya turned away from the mirror to see a young woman in a stereotypical maid outfit rushing into the room. A pair of fox ears sat atop her neatly tied up brown hair and her blue eyes shone with worry.
Yes! A trusty maid. Maya smiled inwardly. I can maybe get a name from her.
"What's my name?" Maya asked confidently. "And where am I?"
The maid stopped in her footsteps and gazed at Maya in confusion. "Lady Finn… Is something wrong? Wait… Let me get the doctor!"
No! You're meant to just answer my question! Why are you acting like I'm crazy? Maya cried to herself.
Normally, the maid in these stories would just answer questions and not notice their mistress acting strange. So, why did she have to get the normal maid?!
"I'm fine…" Maya finally sighed. "I was just messing with you. Please get breakfast and a bath ready for me."
It seemed she'd have to figure out where she was through a different method. Best not to get anyone curious about her behavior until she figured out who she was and where she was.
"Lady Finn…" The maid paused for a moment, seeming to look for the right words. "Is this because of what happened yesterday?"
Yeah, she was screwed. She barely knew who she was, let alone what happened yesterday. Couldn't this maid at least give her a clue or something.
As if the gods of this world were finally hearing her pleas, the maid added, "Crown Prince Devon Asher may seem to hate you, but you shouldn't take it to heart. If he did really hate you, then he would've…"
The maid continued speaking, but Maya was lost to the world by then. Because while she was awful at descriptions, she did have a decent memory with names.
Especially when it was from a novel she read last night.
"My name doesn't happen to be Maya Finn, now would it?" Maya asked, doing everything possible to keep her tone even.
The maid paused and glanced at her with a worried expression. "Perhaps I should call a doctor…"
"No." Maya muttered. "Please just answer the question and then forget what I said."
"I…" The maid looked conflicted before she finally sighed, "Yes… That's your name Lady Finn. Shall I get breakfast and your bath prepared then?"
"Go ahead." Maya nodded her head,
The maid hurried out of the room and the moment the door closed behind her, Maya collapsed onto the plush carpet, unable to hold herself up. The knowledge she had gained was too much.
Why the hell did I have to isekai into the body of the villainess?! Maya cried to herself. I know they're all the rage these days, but still!
It was one thing to read about villainess' changing their fate and another to be the horrible villainess. Especially when there was always a death flag on the villainess.
And hers was for trying to poison the female lead. The most stereotypical route for a villainess Maya didn't really need a good memory of the plot to know that.
Looks like I'm going to have to follow the route of every otome isekai villainess before me. Maya thought to herself sarcastically. Avoid the death flag and not get in the way of the male lead and female lead.
Typically that would mean ending the engagement between her and the crown prince, who happened to be the male lead. But in this case, the engagement promise was to the Finn House.
And seeing as the female lead belonged to the Finn House too, there was no need to end the engagement. Not that she could really do so anyway…
But she could hand the engagement to the female lead instead. The only thing was, she'd have to marry someone else by law. If she didn't, then she'd lose her titles and there was no doubt the crown prince would come after her.
Maya gulped at the thought, hand covering her neck.
I'll need to find myself another marriage partner… Maya mused. The question is who?
She racked her brain over all the suitable characters in this world, pausing when she realized how stupid she had been. Of course, there was only one person for her.
The second male lead and main villain of this story - Duke Rois Winser of the West Duchy.
