Chapter 31 - Chapter 31

Emily's POV

I don't know how I ever thought that icing Damon out and being his PA was gonna work.

We arrived at the office and I did everything I let him do for me previously, by myself.

I got my own door, let myself out of the car, stayed while the elevator took him up alone, pushed the elevator button by myself, opened his office door and sat right where I was supposed to be.

"How many people do I meet today?"He asked me.

"I'll check that right now and get back to you as soon as possible." I said, with my phone in my hand. I scrolled through endless pictures of hot model guys, on purpose, so if he decides to snatch the phone out of my hands, he'd be riled up by what he sees.

Contrary to what I thought, he didn't even move an inch from his chair. I finally got bored and set the phone down, making sure it was within sight for him.

"Mr Murray by ten am, Mrs O'Connor by midday, and a staff meeting by two pm." I read out his schedule. "You're also expecting a call from the ministry, and one from Asia."

"That's a lot." He said to himself.

I reminded myself to be professional, so I took my phone off my table, put out the screen, and tucked it into the drawer. I needed to draft and upload minutes from his meetings the previous day, and call to remind his dates.

"When do you think I can squeeze in lunch?" He asked me, looking up from his computer where he'd been punching aggressively.

"I will send a mail to Mrs O'Connor and see if she'd be willing to meet now, since Mr Murray has not yet even arrived at the airport." I said.

"That will do." He replied, emotionlessly, and turned back to his computer.

While I punched away at mine, working, I wondered if we were not going to discuss what happened.

It was just the both of us in there, there's no reason why we couldn't talk.

"Are we going to act like everything is cool between us?" I asked him, clearing my throat after.

"No." He replied, still not tearing his look away from the monitor before him.

"So, do you have anything to say?" I asked again. He's the one who should be doing the talking, not me.

"No. No I don't." He answered. His brows furrowed and he bit his inner cheek a little too hard. His punches on the keyboard got louder and more violent, and he'd begun to shake his legs.

"Mrs Connor says yes. She's downstairs already." I changed the subject.

 "Send for her." He said.

I called the receptionist and asked for the lady to be sent up.

About ten minutes later, a hot, young woman, in her twenties or early thirties walked in. She had the swagger and ginger of a model on the runway, the smile of a child who got all the wanted for Christmas. She had an expensive cologne on, I could tell from the scent.

"Hello!" Her shrill voice rang. I didn't know if I liked her yet, so I decided to stick around long enough to form an opinion.

"Hi, Daisy." Damon smiled unrestrained. He got up and held his hand out to her. "Meet Emily." He added.

I smiled and stared at him, waiting for a proper introduction, something along the lines of "Meet Emily, she's my wife." but that didn't come, Emily is all he introduced me as. I guess that's all I'm worth after all.

"Hello, Mrs O'Connor." I greeted with a smile, holding my hand out like I saw Damon do.

"Don't be silly, young girl." She said and pulled me into a stiff embrace with the hand I'd stuck out to her. "Call me Daisy. Mr O'Connor is dead."

It felt very weird and highly unprofessional.

I looked into Damon's face, pleading with him to say something, but he tore his gaze away.

Matter of fact he sat down and continued with what he'd be doing.

"You smell sweet. Sweet but cheap." She said, as soon as our bodies disconnected, "Damon, you don't go shopping with Emily?" She asked him.

"We haven't gotten to that yet." He waved it off smiling.

My blood began to boil. I felt hot tears run up my eyes. But he's the Alpha, why is he scared? Is he scared or ashamed? Ashamed of me!

"I'll check with the logistics department and make sure they've sent out today's shipment." I said to no one exactly, and made a much needed exit.

"That was weird." I heard her say as I dashed out.

Determined to prove that I was no biscuit splined little girl, I turned back, knocked once, and opened the door to grab my phone. I didn't know how long I was going to be gone for.

"I want to grab my phone." I said looking at both of them.

Damon was still on his side of the long desk, but the lady, who I was beginning to dislike, sat on the other side, and looked at me too glaringly.

I knew I was under such gnawing hawk eyes.

"I'd rather you sit in and take minutes of this meeting." Damon said. I'd just put my hand on the door knob, ready to vamoose out of their sight. "Mrs Connor will not be spending too long." He added. "You can check the departments when she's left."

Choiceless, I sat back down at my desk, and stared into my computer screen to take my eyes off them both. Classic of him to want to show how much power he's got over me.

"What's your deal?" He asked her in the same icy tone he spoke to me. "The desk is for computers and paperworks, not a grown woman's behind." He added.

"Your father didn't seem to mind." She shot back at him.

"I'm sure your husband did." Damon replied.

I broke my own rule and raised my head up.

The stare down between them was intense.
