Chapter 198 - Chapter 196: Tit for Tat

On the other side of Waterfall Town, Roy was trying to get Elara to sleep.

Maybe it was because Jennifer had hypnotized her once in the afternoon, but Elara was particularly energetic tonight and just wouldn't go to sleep.

If Elara wasn't sleeping, how could Roy possibly sleep? That little succubus was so bothersome.

It was either trying to get to its nutrient tube or rubbing against Roy's leg – it was really wearing him out.

Roy, having no experience with kids, spent a long time finally coaxing Elara to sleep, feeling completely drained.

It wasn't physical exhaustion, just pure mental fatigue.

Being a parent is seriously tough.

At this point, Roy remembered he still had three treasure chests to open, so he figured he might as well open them tonight while he had a hairless cat nearby.

First, he'd pet the hairless cat a bit to wash his hands, and then start with the Leviathan Familiar's Destiny Treasure Chest.

[Opening the Leviathan Familiar's Destiny Treasure Chest…]

[Gained 2 Strength attribute points!]

[Gained 1 Constitution attribute point!]

Roy's luck didn't seem to be great today. The first chest didn't drop anything special, just gave him three attribute points.

However, those two Strength points finally made Strength the third attribute to break the 50 mark for Roy, even surpassing his Willpower.

His Spirit was almost the first to get there.

Next up was the Mothman's Destiny Treasure Chest.

[Opening the Mothman's Destiny Treasure Chest…]

[Gained 1 Dexterity attribute point!]

[Gained 1 Spirit attribute point!]

It only gave attribute points again, and even one less point than the Leviathan Familiar's chest.

Roy started to wonder if his luck was off tonight. Should he even bother opening the last one, Belial's Conquest Treasure Chest?

Might as well open it, after washing his hands again!

The hairless cat was being really good tonight. After giving his hands a thorough wash, Roy finally started opening the last chest.

[Opening Belial's Conquest Treasure Chest…]

[Gained 1 Strength attribute point!]

[Gained 1 Dexterity attribute point!]

[Gained 1 Constitution attribute point!]

[Gained 1 Intelligence attribute point!]

[Gained 1 Spirit attribute point!]

[Gained 1 Willpower attribute point!]

[Gained the special item, Hound Ring!]

Belial's Conquest Treasure Chest once again gave him +1 to all attributes, and it even dropped a special item!

Roy let out a small sigh of relief. At least he didn't lose out. If Belial's chest hadn't dropped anything good, he would have been furious.

But he didn't know what this Hound Ring did. Roy quickly checked the item description.

[Hound Ring: Legend says that when Belial made a pact with King Solomon, he also gave him twelve rings with magical powers. This is the first of those rings. Wearing this ring allows you to summon the shadowy figures of two Hellhounds to track a target. They cannot be attacked or dispelled and will relentlessly pursue the target until their magic runs out!]

It was a functional item, and it seemed pretty useful. At least it could effectively improve his efficiency in tracking enemies.

Roy was currently lacking this kind of effective enemy detection ability, and this ring filled that gap.

He took the Hound Ring out of his inventory and put it on his hand.

The ring was entirely gold, with two Hellhounds engraved on it, emitting a faint blue glow in the darkness.

"Hmm, looks pretty good too," Roy thought, even more satisfied.

After opening the treasure chests, Roy contentedly held Elara and went to sleep.

Elara's body was soft and squishy, cool to the touch – a really comfortable body pillow.

The next morning, Roy soothed Elara's mood and then went to eat breakfast.

After breakfast, Roy drove to pick up Jennifer and Niddy for school as usual, and suddenly noticed a Lincoln parked in front of Niddy's house.

Who would be visiting Niddy's house so early in the morning?

Roy honked the horn, and Niddy immediately poked her head out of the second-floor window.

"Roy, I was just about to call you! Those people you mentioned are already here!"

The Witch's Union had actually arrived so quickly!

Roy did the math. Emma had awakened last Saturday, and today was Tuesday. That meant the Witch's Union had found Waterfall Town in less than three days.

Roy quickly went inside Niddy's house and saw an elegant middle-aged woman sitting in the living room. Behind her stood two menacing men in black, while Niddy's parents, Arthur and Rebecca, sat opposite the middle-aged woman.

Jennifer wasn't there. She was probably hiding upstairs, afraid of revealing her witch identity.

Emma, on the other hand, was sitting beside Arthur and Rebecca, looking a little nervous.

Well, Emma's injuries had healed a lot after three days of rest. At least she could sit down without moving around too much.

"And who is this?"

Roy's sudden intrusion surprised the middle-aged woman, so she asked Arthur and Rebecca.

Arthur was about to explain, but Roy directly pulled out his badge and showed it to the middle-aged woman.

"FEA Agent, Roy Black! Ma'am, what's your name?"

Hearing the mention of the FEA, the middle-aged woman's expression changed, but when she saw that Roy's badge only indicated he was a small-time agent, her expression softened again.

"I'm Federal Commissioner Cordelia Fox, from Boston."

Cordelia also showed Roy her credentials.

Roy had previously found out that the Witch's Union's headquarters were located in Massachusetts. This was because the Salem witch trials had taken place in Massachusetts, giving the state special significance for the Witch's Union.

"The Witch's Union?"

Roy directly exposed Cordelia's pretense, surprising her slightly.

"You know about us? Then you should also know why I'm here, right?"

Roy nodded.

"Yes, but I'm sorry, Emma is my cousin, and I won't hand my family over to anyone!"

Hearing this, Cordelia frowned deeply.

"As an FEA agent, you should know that newly awakened witches can be very dangerous if they aren't properly guided!"

"That's not something you need to worry about. I'll take care of my own cousin."

Roy's words made Emma feel reassured. She was only eight years old and certainly didn't want to leave her relatives to go to the East Coast, which was thousands of miles away.

But Arthur and Rebecca were getting more and more confused.

"Wait a minute, didn't you just say you were from some special school for kids? How did you suddenly become the Witch's Union? Is this witch the kind of witch I know?"

Because Roy had exposed her, Cordelia had no choice but to be honest with Arthur and Rebecca.

"Yes, we are actually from an ancient organization called the Witch's Union. We specialize in teaching newly awakened witches how to control their powers so they can better integrate into society. Your daughter, Miss Emma, is a newly awakened witch!"

"I'm sorry, but you might have the wrong person! Emma isn't our daughter. She's just staying with us temporarily. Roy's family is her real family!"

Cordelia didn't expect such a big misunderstanding. She had come to Niddy's house entirely based on the crystal ball's guidance. Who would have thought Emma was just staying there temporarily?

Roy shrugged, palms up.

"You heard that, Ms. Fox. I don't agree to let Emma go to Boston."

Cordelia had a pretty good temper, but hearing this made her a little angry.

"Mr. Black, you're so young. You shouldn't be Miss Emma's guardian, right? I need to see her guardian!"

Emma's current guardians were actually Roy's parents, but Roy didn't want Cordelia to meet them.

"Sorry, according to relevant laws, I have the right to refuse you contact with the family of a federal agent."

The family of a federal agent was, of course, classified information and couldn't be casually revealed to outsiders, not even a federal commissioner.

This tactic was something Niddy had found online, and it seemed quite effective. Cordelia's face instantly darkened.

"Young man, you don't know how dangerous it is when a witch loses control!"

"Of course I do. I was the one who handled things when Emma awakened."

Cordelia's chest rose and fell sharply. Even with her good temper, she was finding it hard to endure.

However, this person was still quite well-mannered. Although very angry, she didn't do anything out of line, just said a harsh word.

"I will communicate with your superiors, Mr. Black!"

With that, Cordelia left Niddy's house with the two men in black.

Roy was certain that this woman wouldn't let it go, but since she wanted to talk to Roy's superiors, he'd just let her argue with Gerald.

Arthur and Rebecca stared dumbfounded at Roy and Cordelia's tit-for-tat exchange.

"So, witches and the Witch's Union are real? And Emma, she's a little witch?"

Rebecca looked at Emma with a strange gaze, making Emma feel a little uncomfortable.

"Witches are indeed real. I think after the clown incident, you should also know that supernatural powers exist in this world, right?"

Indeed, after experiencing the Pennywise incident, Arthur and Rebecca both understood that there were supernatural forces in this world that humans couldn't explain.

But knowing something is one thing, and being in close contact with it is another.

However, Arthur and Rebecca were still pretty good people and didn't reject Emma just because she was a witch.

In fact, Rebecca quite liked Emma because Emma was very well-behaved, and her age was similar to Rebecca's missing son.

Rebecca sometimes wished Emma was her daughter.

Regarding this, Emma's biological father would definitely have something to say.

The main reason was that Emma had been staying at Rebecca's house for too short a time. Rebecca thought that Emma's initial reservedness was just because she was living in someone else's home.

She thought the changes in the past two days were because Emma had become familiar with her family.

So, when Rebecca hugged Emma, the little girl herself was a bit surprised.

"Poor child! Roy, you'll protect Emma and not let that Witch's Union take her away, right?"

Rebecca looked at Emma with heartache. For an eight-year-old child to leave her family and go to such a faraway place was just too pitiful.

"Don't worry, I'll protect Emma."

At this moment, Arthur pushed up his glasses and interjected, "I'll look into the background of this Witch's Union and see what their deal is!"

It would be a miracle if Arthur could find anything, but his intentions were good. At least Emma was very touched after hearing Arthur and Rebecca's statements.

"Brother Roy, is that Witch's Union very scary? Will it affect you?"

If it were the old Emma, she definitely wouldn't have been so considerate of others.

"It's okay, I'll handle everything. Emma, how's your injury?"

Rebecca answered for Emma, "It's already half better. As long as she doesn't do any strenuous exercise, it won't affect her much."

"That's perfect. How about I take you to school today? I'll explain your situation to the teacher, and I can also introduce you to a friend."

Mike happened to be in the same class as Emma. Maybe two children with equally outstanding intelligence could become friends.

Niddy sneaked downstairs.

"Roy, have those people left?"

"I chased them away for now. Tell Jennifer she can come down!"

Hearing this, Arthur seemed to have a sudden realization.

"Wait a minute, why did Jennifer have to hide from those people? Could it be that she's also…"

Now that things had been said, Roy didn't continue to hide it.

"Yes, Jennifer is also a witch."

Arthur and Rebecca opened their mouths, completely in disbelief.

Jennifer had been living at Niddy's house for a few months, yet they hadn't realized she was a witch at all.

Then Arthur started to get fanciful.

"Niddy, don't tell me you're a witch too!"

Niddy looked at her father speechlessly.

"Dad, witches usually rely on heredity! Don't you know if our family has any witch bloodline?"

Arthur looked at his wife Rebecca and scratched his head.

"It seems our family really doesn't have any witch bloodline."

After the little interlude, Roy drove Emma to school first, and then went to Oakwood High.

On the other side, Cordelia stood alone in the distance, observing Niddy's house, and then dialed a number.

"Mother, there were some unexpected issues with this operation."

A lazy voice came from the other end of the phone.

"What kind of issues?"

"I was stopped by an FEA agent. She wouldn't let me take the newly awakened little witch."

"A small-time FEA agent, is that right? Don't tell me you're afraid of him."

Hearing this, Cordelia frowned deeply. From the tone on the other end of the phone, it sounded like they wanted her to get rid of Roy.

However, Cordelia had always been quite rule-abiding and couldn't accept such methods.

"Wouldn't that be a bit much? He's a federal agent after all!"

"Oh, Cordelia, I shouldn't have to teach you such a small thing, should I? Use your connections in the federal government to take care of him! You're the daughter of the Supreme Witch and the headmistress of the witch school, not just some nobody!"

The person on the other end of the phone seemed a little dissatisfied with Cordelia's weakness, which made Cordelia's heart tighten.

"Mother, I will handle this. Don't worry!"

"Don't make me wait too long, Cordelia! How can I confidently pass on my mantle to you when you're like this?"

After saying that, the other person hung up the phone.

Letting out a deep breath, Cordelia dialed another number.

"Hello, this is Cordelia Fox! I need you to help me investigate someone, an FEA agent named Roy Black! Preferably as soon as possible!"

Cordelia Fox (Sarah Paulson)
