The stalemate between the two lasted until midnight, still without resolution. Maya's frustration grew increasingly stifled, increasingly uncomfortable, to the point where she even wanted to have a huge argument with Liam, asking him what his intentions were.
But she was unwilling to start trouble, so with a "snap," she threw the book on the nightstand, and with a "whoosh," she slipped under the quilt to sleep.
Only after she got into the quilt, she couldn't fall asleep at all. Instead, she became more and more awake, increasingly agitated.
As time went on into the night, her emotions changed from agitation and impatience to feeling aggrieved. Alone, she curled up into a ball in the corner of the big bed, secretly wiping tears, and even had the impulse to go home.
She no longer wanted to stay in Liam's villa. This inexplicable coldness was unbearable, and she didn't want to accept it either.
