Dawn Sutherland looked at Daisy Grant, her gaze deepening. After a moment of silence, Dawn extended his hand towards Daisy, his deep voice ringing out: "Don't stand in the snow any longer, come home with me."
Come home with me—
Daisy looked at Dawn's outstretched hand, fair and slender, almost excessively beautiful. What made Daisy's eyes sting with tears was that her second brother answered her with action.
A simple "come home with me"—in such circumstances, her second brother had no intention of distancing himself from her.
"Brother—" Daisy's throat was choked, her voice carrying a sob.
"Even if the whole world doesn't want you, I do." Dawn pressed his lips together, extending his fingers further towards her.
All the ridicule Daisy suffered from Selah Sutton today, and the helplessness and fear, were soothed by those words.
If years later someone asked if she regretted her choice today, she thought she wouldn't regret it.
Because the brother she loved was worth it.
