Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Rebirth 1998

On the newspaper, it read: October 5, 1998.

She would never forget this date. It was the day Mu Yunfei, her and Mu Qiancheng's child, was born.

"Xue'er, why are you up? Quick, lie down." A voice echoed in Jiang Xue's ears, bringing her back to reality. She turned her head to look.

She was stunned when she saw who it was. It was Mu Qiancheng's mother, Bai Yuhua.

"Xue'er, what's wrong?" Bai Yuhua noticed Jiang Xue's daze, thinking something was amiss. She quickly put down the hot water bottle in her hand and walked over to her.

"Mom, I'm fine!" Jiang Xue shook her head, her eyes slightly moist as she looked at Bai Yuhua. Although Bai Yuhua was her mother-in-law, she had always treated her very well.

Even when she and Mu Qiancheng went through a divorce, and she didn't even want their son, Bai Yuhua never did anything against her. She only showed disappointment on her face every time she saw her.

"Really okay? Should I go get the doctor?" Bai Yuhua looked at Jiang Xue with some concern, worried she might be unwell.

After all, childbirth is like passing through the gates of hell. Even though Jiang Xue was fine after giving birth, there was always the fear of any aftereffects.

"Mom, really, I'm fine." Jiang Xue shook her head, fully aware of her own physical condition. At this moment, she was feeling better than ever.

Bai Yuhua saw that Jiang Xue was truly fine, which eased her mind a little. She said, "Alright, let me help you lie down."

As she spoke, she reached out to help Jiang Xue lie down.

"Thank you, Mom!" Jiang Xue looked at Bai Yuhua with a complex expression and expressed her gratitude. In her past life, she was the one to make trouble the most. Although she didn't like Mu Qiancheng, she was forced to marry him.

So, after entering the Mu family, she kept acting out. Fortunately, her mother-in-law, Bai Yuhua, was a good person and never held it against her, no matter how much trouble she caused.

Not only that, Bai Yuhua even urged Mu Qiancheng to give in to her more, saying that it wasn't easy for Jiang Xue to get married into the Mu family after leaving her own parents, and he should treat her well.

"We're family, no need for thanks." Bai Yuhua waved her hand, feeling a bit unused to Jiang Xue's sudden politeness. She was accustomed to Jiang Xue's indifference towards her, so this formal thank you was quite unexpected.

However, she didn't think much of it, assuming Jiang Xue had matured now that she had a child.

Jiang Xue smiled but didn't say anything.

"You must be tired, sleep well. I'll be here watching over you. If you need anything, just call for me." Bai Yuhua instructed Jiang Xue before sitting down on a nearby chair. She picked up some yarn to start knitting a sweater.

Jiang Xue glanced at Bai Yuhua and noticed she was knitting clothes for the baby. Quite a few clothes were already knitted, and she could vaguely see a small vest taking shape.

Gazing at the small vest, Jiang Xue couldn't help but think of her past life. After she gave birth in her previous life, Bai Yuhua also stayed by her side. Yet back then, instead of feeling grateful, she was quite annoyed.

One moment she asked Bai Yuhua to fetch water, then demanded help to relieve herself. In short, she made Bai Yuhua run back and forth so much that her chronic ailment flared up, causing her back to ache severely.

In this life, she didn't want to trouble this good mother-in-law again. On the contrary, she planned to diligently show her filial respect to atone for the sins of her past life.

With this thought, Jiang Xue withdrew her gaze, preparing to close her eyes and rest for a bit. Truthfully, although her stomach felt lighter after childbirth, her body was still exhausted.

But just as she closed her eyes, a loud cry burst in her ears, startling her. She turned her head to look beside her.
