Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Standing Up for Her 1

She used such means to force Brandan, knowing she was despicable, but there was no other way. If she didn't act, Brandan would really end up with Viola Harris...

She saw Brandan picking out engagement rings at the jewelry store; he was about to propose to Viola Harris.

...

Iris Harris sat in the office, a bit dazed.

"Buzz buzz buzz—"

The phone on the desk suddenly rang, waking Iris Harris abruptly. She quickly reached for it and answered the call.

"Hello?"

"Iris, where are you now?"

Lady Hyde's gentle voice came from the phone.

"I'm at the office. What's up?"

"It's like this..." Lady Hyde said softly, "Brandan forgot to take his medicine today. Can you come over, pick up the medication, and deliver it to him?"

Brandan is in the early stages of leukemia. Without a bone marrow match, he can only rely on medication for treatment, but it's not a cure. He doesn't want to stay in the hospital, and the Hyde family has no choice but to chase him daily to ensure he takes his medication on time.

"Um, okay."

Hearing this, Iris Harris quickly agreed.

She stood up from her office chair and turned her head to look outside, only to realize it was already dark.

She had been thinking about Brandan's situation and hadn't noticed how late it had gotten.

These days, she kept waiting for Brandan to come find trouble with her. He's very fond of Viola Harris, and last time Viola had a hard time here; how could he let it go so easily?

But it's been so long, and there hasn't been a trace of activity, which is truly unusual.

Thinking of this, Iris Harris felt a bit tense inside.

Would he intentionally embarrass her when she went to find him this time?

After picking up the medication from the Hyde residence's housekeeper, Iris Harris hurriedly drove off to find Brandan.

Brandan was having a gathering with his group of friends at the Nightshade Club today. Iris Harris had asked about the club's private rooms and hurriedly went over with the medication.

As soon as she pushed open the private room door, a wave of sound rushed out, almost deafening her. She held onto the club door and squinted inside.

The club was dimly lit, with several women singing. Brandan and his friends were all seated on the sofa. He sat at the innermost part, with a casual, relaxed posture. His handsome face displayed an air of indifference in the dim lighting.

Viola Harris was nestled closely against his side, holding a glass of wine and whispering something to him. Her arrival hadn't caught their attention.

Iris Harris touched the medication in her pocket, pursing her lips slightly as she walked in. She hadn't walked far before a hand blocked her path.

"Oh, isn't this Miss Harris?"

A slightly flippant male voice sounded next to her ear. Iris Harris glanced sideways to see a young man with a bit of a slick demeanor smiling at her. She didn't know him but assumed he was Brandan's friend since he was here.

Iris Harris withdrew her gaze and said softly, "Please let me through; I'm looking for Brandan."

"What do you want Brandan for?" The man reached out, resting his fingers on her shoulder. The next second, a glass of red wine was brought to her lips, and he blew air at her, saying, "Why not have a drink with me? I wonder if Miss Harris would do me the honor?"

Although his words were courteous, his actions were forceful. The glass pressed against her lips caused a sharp pain, and Iris Harris tried to pull away from his embrace. Yet he held her tighter, and there were even people nearby encouraging, "Yeah, it's just a glass of wine. What's the harm in taking a sip?"
