Chapter 172 - Chapter 172: Nightmare! A Lifelong Nemesis!

At first, what caught Davis's attention was the abandoned psychiatric hospital. But after thinking it over, he decided the terrain there was too complicated. The No. 4 Old Water Plant was better suited for capturing Kaitō Kid and much easier for them to control.

The only thing he hadn't anticipated was how those dogs would follow Zhang Yang's every order without question.

From his hiding spot, Zhang Yang silently watched Davis walk into the asylum.

"Bruce and the others have already left. What's he doing here now? What's he after?"

Once they entered the building, Zhang Yang started up the off-road bike and sped away.

He had only come for the twin-ram zun vessels. As for Davis and his so-called offer of cooperation, Zhang Yang had absolutely no interest.

After returning to the city, the first thing Zhang Yang did was swap out the off-road bike for another car.

That bike had already shown up in the live broadcast. If anyone recognized it from the stream, it could blow his cover.

"Davis really is putting in the effort. He actually used the twin-ram zun as a peace offering."

"That USB drive in the vault must be seriously important to him."

Even though Zhang Yang didn't know what was on the drive, the value of the twin-ram zun alone made it clear how vital it must be.

At least for Davis, the USB was clearly worth far more than the artifact.

After taking a photo of the twin-ram zun, Zhang Yang left it at the gate of the Dragon Nation Embassy, then stepped on the gas and sped off.

Famous men attract trouble like fat pigs attract butchers.

Zhang Yang didn't want to be involved with too many people—especially not any organizations.

Even with the embassy from the Dragon Nation, he had no desire to get entangled.

Meanwhile, the media crew had chased all the way from the wilderness to the hospital and was still broadcasting live.

Harrison had been rushed into the ER, while Bruce waited anxiously outside.

[Harrison has turned catching Kaitō Kid into an obsession. Otherwise, he wouldn't have risked his life like that. A normal person fears death!]

[Oh my god! God bless, I hope Harrison's okay!]

[What kind of capture plan did Bruce come up with? How did they end up at that asylum?]

[They went silent after Davis issued the challenge. Who even knows what their plan was supposed to be!]

[At this point, Bruce needs to make a public statement!]

Now that Harrison was in the ER, all the pressure from public opinion had fallen on Bruce.

After seeing the flood of comments in the live chat, one reporter actually mustered the courage to approach Bruce.

"Director Bruce, can you tell us when you first encountered Kaitō Kid?"

Bruce was furious. He glared at the reporter with eyes that looked like they could kill.

The chat exploded in laughter.

[What the hell? That reporter's got guts, going up to Bruce right now?]

[Damn, Ah Zhen, you really went for it!]

[Bruce is about ready to start eating people, and this guy's out here doing interviews!]

[Bro, even if you want a statement, now is definitely not the time!]

Scared off by Bruce's glare, the reporter backed away. No one else dared go near him.

But just a few minutes later, the ER doors swung open.

Harrison stumbled out, hair around the wound already shaved, the cut still untreated, blood still smeared on his face.

He grabbed Bruce by the shoulders and blurted out the moment he saw him, "Did you catch Kaitō Kid?"

The doctor and nurses rushed out after him, looking completely at a loss over what to do.

[What the hell? Harrison woke up midway?]

[Kaitō Kid really has become Harrison's nightmare—his lifelong nemesis!]

[My god, that head injury looks terrible. Shouldn't they be treating the wound first?]

[If Bruce had gone all out like Harrison, maybe they really would've caught Kaitō Kid!]

Harrison's dedication left the livestream viewers across the globe in awe. He'd been sent to the ER with a bleeding head injury, completely unconscious.

Yet he woke up in the middle of it, ran out of the emergency room, and asked if they'd caught Kaitō Kid.

Bruce didn't give Harrison the answer he was hoping for. He just shook his head with deep regret.

"No, Harrison."

"He got away. I'm sorry."

"Get your wound treated first. We'll deal with the rest later."

The last glimmer of light in Harrison's eyes dimmed. He let his arms fall, utterly defeated.

Bruce exchanged a glance with the doctor and nurses behind him, signaling them to take Harrison back for proper treatment.

Even though this capture operation ended in failure, Harrison's effort earned him global respect. Cynical and mocking comments were few and far between.

The whole challenge had originally been Davis's idea. He wanted to use Kaitō Kid to mock and provoke Bruce and Harrison.

But now it had completely backfired. Davis had shot himself in the foot.

All the public attention and backlash turned on him.

[Davis is a gang leader—he's definitely up to something shady!]

[Really curious what he said to Kaitō Kid in the end!]

[If not for his provocations, Harrison wouldn't have gone that hard chasing after him!]

[What, Eagle Nation can't even handle one gang boss?]

[If Pritt could be taken down, Bruce will definitely deal with Davis too. He's just waiting for the right time!]

The global media jumped on the story. Reports about Davis's schemes, Harrison's accident and coma, and Kaitō Kid's narrow escape spread like wildfire.

When Davis saw these headlines, his face darkened.

"Damn nosy media!"

"But at least the goal was achieved. Kaitō Kid's still just a master thief. The offer I put on the table should be enough to tempt him."

His eyes glinted with menace. That USB drive wasn't just important—it was everything to him.

It was life and death.

The entire core of the Eighteenth Street Gang was on that drive.

After his wound was treated, Harrison came out of the ER again.

The doctors ran all necessary tests and confirmed there was no major danger.

Bruce immediately had agents block the media and helped Harrison out of the hospital.

[Hope Harrison recovers soon!]

[It's just a head wound, probably not serious. Otherwise, they wouldn't be letting him walk out!]

[Bruce really seems to care about Harrison. I bet Davis is screwed. Bruce won't let this slide!]

[Bruce already handled Pritt. Davis is just next on the list!]

Now, all public outrage was aimed squarely at Davis.

Of course, Davis had already anticipated this when he issued the challenge.

But when faced with the choice between angering Bruce and giving up the USB drive, he chose to provoke Bruce—because he had to get that drive back, no matter the cost.

Angering Bruce might not be fatal.

But if he couldn't retrieve that USB?

Then what awaited him would be far worse.
