Now all their hopes rested on Harrison, who had gone after him.
Bruce glanced at the media cars at the rear and felt a surge of regret.
He had been so confident, yet made two rookie mistakes in a row.
Back when he first saw the lone agent, he had already suspected it was Kaitō Kid in disguise.
And he'd completely forgotten about Kaitō Kid's Silver-Winged Cape.
If he'd remembered, he would've left someone guarding the rooftop.
"What a perfect opportunity… completely wasted!"
Bruce was practically sick with regret.
He turned and walked to the deformed iron door. A few agents were gathered around it, studying the steel bar twisted around the bolt.
It was as thick as a thumb and had been twisted like a pretzel—far beyond just being bent. It was coiled in several loops and wrapped around the latch tight.
"Oh my god! Chief Bruce, look at this. Steel bars like this have extremely high tensile strength!"
Bruce frowned and crouched down to examine the twisted steel.
"That freak Kaitō Kid… how the hell does he have that kind of strength?"
Another FBI agent spoke with certainty.
"Chief Bruce, he must've used some kind of tool. No way he could've done this by hand."
"Even a gorilla couldn't twist steel like that barehanded."
No matter how much they had seen, none of the agents believed a human could do this with brute strength alone.
Bruce gave a quiet hum but didn't respond further.
He didn't dare say more. Deep down, he actually believed Kaitō Kid had done it by hand.
Just because others couldn't do it didn't mean Kaitō Kid couldn't.
That's why he was a world-class thief.
Harrison floored the gas on the black SUV, chasing desperately in the direction Zhang Yang had disappeared. Even on rough terrain, he never let up.
Soon, his speed hit nearly 200. The undercarriage slammed against rocks with loud clunks, and the media cars behind were falling farther and farther behind.
[Damn, Harrison's really out for blood!]
[Driving this fast here? One rock or pothole and he's dead!]
[How much is Harrison getting paid a month to risk his life like this?!]
[Oh my god! Harrison's getting faster and faster. Isn't this dangerous?]
[This isn't a mission anymore—Harrison's chasing Kaitō Kid like it's a religion. Dude's going all in!]
Even though Harrison was going full throttle, he still never caught a glimpse of Kaitō Kid.
Eventually, one of his tires struck a chunk of rock and blew out. The SUV flipped several times before coming to a stop.
The media cars finally caught up. Crew members rushed over and pulled the unconscious Harrison from the wreck.
[Poor Harrison, he really gave it his all!]
[Oh my god, let's hope he's okay. Kaitō Kid's got a glider cape—how could anyone catch him in the wild?]
[Shit! This is all Davis' fault. If he hadn't provoked Kaitō Kid, Bruce and Harrison wouldn't have chased him this far!]
[Davis clearly lured Kaitō Kid out here for a reason!]
[If it weren't for the media team, Harrison might've been done for!]
Soon after, Bruce and the others arrived and took Harrison away to the hospital.
Out here in the wilderness, you couldn't even see another person, let alone a hospital.
At that moment, Harrison's head was covered in blood from the crash, but luckily his breathing was steady. After a quick check, Bruce confirmed he wasn't in any life-threatening condition.
Zhang Yang landed steadily in the open countryside. After getting far enough away from the abandoned asylum, he switched direction.
That was to prevent anyone from catching up. In the open wilderness, there was no cover and no transportation. If someone chased him down and he had already landed, he'd be surrounded with no way out.
Even though Harrison had a rough ending, Zhang Yang wasn't exactly in great shape either.
There wasn't a single vehicle around, so he had to travel on foot for the time being.
"Bruce and Harrison are getting smarter. I almost walked right into their trap."
"Good thing that haunted house themed asylum was nearby, or it really wouldn't have been easy to shake them off."
Zhang Yang muttered to himself as he started heading toward the city.
Along the way, he spotted Bruce's convoy. He quickly hid in the woods and watched them drive past.
After they were gone, he suddenly heard rustling behind him.
Turning around, he was startled to see a wild boar!
Its black-brown fur bristled, its thick white tusks gleamed, and its muscular frame exuded menace as it glared at Zhang Yang with hostility.
It wasn't unusual for wild boars to roam around here, but Zhang Yang noticed this one had visible wounds.
That meant it had just been in a fight. It was bound to be especially aggressive now.
But Zhang Yang wasn't worried. With his max-level Beast Mastery, he didn't fear it attacking.
In fact, he had a bold idea.
"If I could ride this thing back to the asylum, it'd be way better than walking."
Bruce and the others had already retreated, and the off-road bike Zhang Yang rode here wasn't seriously damaged. There was just some brush caught in the wheels. Once he cleared that out, it'd be fine to ride.
Zhang Yang snapped his fingers and waved at the boar to come closer.
The hostility instantly vanished from the boar's eyes. It obediently trotted over to him.
Guided by the map in his monocle, Zhang Yang climbed onto the boar and headed back toward the asylum.
"The world's number one super thief, riding a wild boar… what a sight!"
He joked to himself along the way.
"If someone snapped a photo of me on this boar and posted it online, that'd be hilarious."
Even though the boar was wounded, it ran at full speed without any issues. Before long, it brought Zhang Yang back to the abandoned asylum.
The place was completely deserted. Zhang Yang quickly entered the main building. The off-road bike was still parked where he had left it.
After clearing the weeds out of the wheels and getting ready to go, he suddenly heard the faint hum of engines in the distance, rapidly approaching.
"Didn't Bruce and the others already leave?"
Zhang Yang frowned, then quickly rode the bike into the woods, turned off the engine, and crouched behind a patch of tall grass.
The terrain here was even wilder than around the old water plant. Any random pile of overgrown brush stood over a meter tall—enough to easily hide both him and the bike.
He waited patiently for just over a minute before several cars slowly pulled up in front of the asylum gate.
"Davis?"
"What's he doing here?"
Back when Zhang Yang had first rushed into the old water plant on his off-road bike, it was these same vehicles that had been parked nearby.
A group of people stepped out, opening the doors. Davis got out of the car.
He looked up at the abandoned asylum looming ahead and sneered coldly.
"Bruce and Harrison, those two idiots… did they seriously not know there was an abandoned asylum here before they started their operation?"
