Chapter 178 - Chapter 178: A Thunderous Boom—Kaitō Kid Makes a Dazzling Entrance!

One was the cat, the other the mouse.

Now, seeing the cat and mouse working together in broad daylight wasn't just laughable to Zhang Yang—it had netizens all over cracking jokes.

[Bruce has completely lost his moral compass just to catch Kaitō Kid!]

[Is forming a gang in Eagle Nation even legal? Why could Davis be taken down so fast, yet Bud gets negotiated with?]

[If they just arrest Bud too, wouldn't they still catch Kaitō Kid inside the building?]

[Oh my god! FBI headquarters teaming up with a gang boss to catch a master thief? This is peak comedy!]

[Only in Eagle Nation would a cat and mouse hybrid species even sound plausible!]

Every livestream chat was going wild. Zhang Yang slipped casually into the crowd, blending in with the rubberneckers like he was just another curious bystander.

He glanced at the Rensa Group tower. There were agents stationed right at the entrance.

The whole setup was exactly as he'd expected. He didn't even need to think twice to imagine what the inside of the building looked like.

"Alright then, let's see who's more patient."

Zhang Yang observed the scene for a moment before pulling his cap lower and heading back to the car.

There were definitely a lot of agents swarming the building. Rushing in now wouldn't just be dangerous—it'd be nearly impossible to get close to the vault.

Only by blurring the line between real and fake could he catch them off guard.

Bruce and Harrison stayed glued to the monitors. There were fewer than ten surveillance feeds, but they basically covered the entire 33rd floor.

Most importantly, every hallway leading to the vault had a camera placed at its far end.

As for Bud, he wasn't huddled around the screens with them. He'd gone into the lounge behind the office to lie down.

Behind a hidden door in the office was Bud's personal mega-suite. It didn't just have floor-to-ceiling windows—there was even a full bath with a tub.

"Bruce, how did Bud get those two tigers to guard the vault for him?"

Harrison had dealt with wild animals during missions before, but they were always locked up in cages.

And those ones had zero discipline—pure aggression.

This was the first time Harrison had seen two ferocious tigers behaving like guard dogs.

Bruce watched the footage of the two tigers pacing and playing with each other, clearly impressed.

"With enough training over time, I suppose it's possible."

"Bud using two tigers near the vault? We didn't expect it, and Kaitō Kid definitely wouldn't either."

Bruce's eyes gleamed with cold anticipation. He was seriously looking forward to what was about to unfold.

"With those two tigers guarding the 33rd floor, even if we don't spot Kaitō Kid ourselves, they'll definitely make him regret showing up."

Hearing Bruce's take, Harrison turned to glance outside. The night sky sparkled, bathed in the glow of multicolored city lights.

The answer to everything would only appear once Kaitō Kid made his move.

Yet, two full hours passed. Bud had even gotten in a nap, but Kaitō Kid still hadn't shown.

Wearing a bathrobe, Bud stepped out from the secret door, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"Gentlemen, Kaitō Kid still hasn't arrived?"

Bruce and Harrison didn't even turn around. They were still staring at the screens, both answering in sync.

But the moment their words fell, brilliant fireworks exploded outside.

"Shit!"

Bruce and Harrison rushed to the floor-to-ceiling window. The fireworks burst just a little lower than where they stood.

"Gentlemen… don't tell me those fireworks are Kaitō Kid's doing?"

Bud also realized something had gone terribly wrong.

He'd heard the rumors—that sometimes, Kaitō Kid would set off fireworks at the scene to celebrate a successful heist.

Bruce shook his head, his thoughts tangled.

"Not sure."

He then picked up the walkie-talkie and asked the other agents for updates.

"Send a few people over to check out the fireworks!"

"Anyone else see anything?"

The responses through the walkie-talkie were all the same—no abnormalities. For a moment, all that remained was the crackling of fireworks outside.

Four or five agents ran out of the building and found the fireworks still going off in a box by the roadside.

The media instantly swung their cameras toward the agents and the box of fireworks.

[What the hell? Kaitō Kid set off fireworks here? And nobody noticed?]

[God, did Bruce and his team really not spot Kaitō Kid entering the building?]

[This is insane. Could he actually be using magic?]

[The fireworks must've been his. He already got away—it's a miracle!]

[No one saw him? What were all those agents even doing?]

The agents found the fireworks box but nothing else.

The livestream chat exploded.

Everyone believed that the fireworks meant one thing—Kaitō Kid had already succeeded.

Zhang Yang sat inside his car. Seeing that only four or five agents had been dispatched, he activated his backup plan.

As the agents reported back to Bruce, Zhang Yang started his car and drove off with swagger.

Just before leaving, he even rolled down the window and gave the agents a mocking snap of his fingers.

Even though he wasn't wearing the Phantom Thief's iconic white outfit, it was obvious who he was—even if you guessed with your toes.

The agents immediately reported to Bruce.

"Sir, we've spotted Kaitō Kid!"

"He's escaping in a white sedan. We're going after him now!"

They scrambled back into their car and stomped the gas, chasing after him.

[He's so arrogant—I love it!]

[Bruce really didn't notice him entering the building? That's wild. How'd he sneak in?]

[Kaitō Kid's driving skills make pro racers look slow. These agents think they can catch up?]

[Oh my god! That was way too sudden!]

[Kaitō Kid never disappoints. Those fireworks had to be his doing!]

Bruce and Harrison were stunned when they heard the report.

They'd been glued to the monitor the entire time. Their eyes hadn't left the screen for a second.

"Fuck! How did Kaitō Kid get into the vault?"

"Bud, didn't you say the vault was absolutely secure?"

"Then tell me, how did he pull it off?"

Facing Bruce's barrage of questions, Bud was just as dumbfounded.

But as the one who'd been robbed, Bud wasn't just confused—he was furious.

"Director Bruce, the entire building was full of your people. Shouldn't you be asking them that?"

Harrison's face darkened, and he snapped.

"That's enough!"

"What matters now is catching Kaitō Kid, not shifting blame!"

"Bruce, notify the Enforcement Bureau to help intercept. As long as he doesn't vanish, we still have a chance!"

Bruce immediately contacted the Enforcement Bureau, relaying the car's color and last known location, urging them to intercept.

At the same time, he rushed downstairs, leading several teams of agents in hot pursuit.
