Chapter 24 - Light and Darkness Dragon and the book of Life

When I entered my room, I noticed that Pluto was waiting for me. "We have found where the Light and Darkness dragon is hidden; it is being protected by some local spirits, and the dragon blocks the entrance to a hidden chamber from which I sensed a powerful aura of death," Pluto said as he pointed to the map with his clawed hand. Checking the time, it was still pretty early, only around 9:00. Putting on my gear i said. "Alright, lead the way."

Making our way deeper into the forest toward the volcano, every once in a while having to divert from the current path to avoid the campus security before returning to the correct path after an hour of hiking, we started to run into some of the spirits protecting the dragon with a flick of my wrist i lancked Raimei at a small group of them, finishing them in a single strike before continuing to make our way to the dragon.

As we got closer, more spirits appeared, and they grew stronger. The good news is that the event prompted me to use the two new forms of magic I had recently acquired, which improved my proficiency with them. Finally, we reached a cave where the light and darkness dragon was hidden. As we got there, the ground rumbled as three powerful monsters appeared the on coming from the cliffs was a dragon whose scales were covered in precise jewels i recognized as Alexandrite Dragon the one coming from the cave was a green-scaled dragon with bronze spikes on its shoulders, but it didn't have any wings. {Cave Dragon} and then a giant wave crashed against the coast, revealing a large dark blue dragon made from solid ice. {White Night Dragon}

Without wasting any time i used my gravity manipulation to pull Alexandrite Dragon down to the ground before blasting a dragon's gunfire in its face, destroying a part of its scales around its face before dodging a wind blade launched from the cave dragon's tail. After dodging it i felt the wind get sucked in past me as the ice dragon got ready to launch an ice breath at me.

Before it could, I threw a spellbinding circle at it, stopping it from moving and causing it to fall to the ground, but it started to thrash about. "that won't hold for long." "pluto finish off the Alexandrite Dragon, please, as i handle the other two." As I said, I felt a wind blade hit my side, but my cloak made from the Black Tyranno scales stopped most of it. I could feel that my side was bruised at best and a broken rib at worst.

"Alright, I'm going to kill you first." I said this as I unwrapped Gleipnir and launched it at the cave dragon's neck. As I heard the sound of Chink-chink-chink-hink-chink-chink-chink, Gleipnir wrapped tightly around the dragon's neck. I used the cave dragon's struggles to help me get closer, jumped up on its back, and began pulling as tightly as I could while also using my gravity manipulation to increase my strength and start strangling it. As it struggled to breathe, I began channeling the Raimei, which shocked it as well.

Then it jumped, using its wind magic to boost its height, trying to crush me against the cave roof. Letting go, I managed to jump off before hitting the roof. As it landed, I pulled out the Runick Flashing Fire card, summoned the gun from it, and charged it with the fire created by my bond with Ash Blossom. With a Bang! I fired a powerful shot into its eye. I fired a powerful shot into its eye, killing it. As it died, it turned into gold dust, leaving behind a green gem.

As the cave dragon died, I saw the ice dragon break free from the spellbinding circle, accompanied by the sound of shattering glass. Then an ice cycle impaled my left leg. "son of a bitch, that hurts!" I then switched the gun to rapid fire and started to unload the charged clip into the wings of the dragon; as the shots hit, they barely left any marks on the wings, just chipping them, and then it launched a blast of ice breath; dropping the gun, I launched myself to the left and activated Runick Destruction, summoning a pair of giant gauntlets on my hands.

Then I heard a commotion to the right of the cave, where pluto killed the Alexandrite Dragon; the ice dragon turned to avenge its fallen companion. Seizing this opportunity, I threw an overhead punch that caused a yellowish-gold fist to materialize and strike the ice dragon's right wing, shattering it and making the dragon fall to the ground. However, it wasn't down for long; with a swing of its tail, it attempted to fire more ice projectiles at me. In response, I activated the rainbow life rune on my gloves, creating a rainbow barrier in front of me that blocked the projectiles and transformed them into life energy flowing into my leg, healing it.

I then threw an uppercut, launching the projection into its head and causing it to crack. Thereafter, I unleashed a flurry of rabbit punches to its face, further cracking it. Before my next punch, I infused fire into it and launched a double-fist punch, smashing its head and creating a small explosion that killed it. After the body hit the ground, it turned to blue dust that scattered into the wind, leaving behind a teal core. I walked over to it, dismissed the gauntlets, and picked up the core; it was about the size of a small grapefruit and was so cold that small amounts of ice formed on my gloves. As I walked to the cave, I picked up a green gem that was the size of an orange with swirling energy in it; as I picked it up, a small burst of energy leaked out before calming down.

I then put both items away in my bag after wrapping them in Gleipnir to seal their energy. As I walked out to where Pluto was waiting, I noticed he was absorbing some of the Alexandrite Dragon's energy, and on the ground, I saw a pile of gold coins and various perfect-quality gems. "is this the cave where we will find the light and darkness dragon?" i asked pluto as i helaled my wounds with the red medicine rune. "Yes, there should not be any more spirits," he said as i put the loot away in my bag before resting for a few minutes to regain my energy.

After a few minutes, I walked back into the cave. The entrance showed some damage from the fight, and as I went deeper, the cave became darker and narrower, eventually forcing me to crawl through a small tunnel that extended for a while. Upon reaching an opening in the cave, I created a small fireball that hovered above my head, providing enough light to see about 60 feet around me. In front of me stood an old temple made from weathered marble and granite. To the left, there was a small pond, and to the right, a small opening led to the ocean. As I walked up the temple steps, I noticed engravings of powerful duel monsters.

Reaching the top of the temple, there were two massive doors made from stone; on one side of the door was  light and darkness dragon and on the other was Despair from the Dark pushing the doors open i see that some of the pillars in the entrance have fallen over. In front of me stood a solid marble sarcophagus adorned with gold trim and unfamiliar runes; to my left was a hallway mirroring the one on the right, but it featured a set of stairs that descended deeper into the temple.

I decided to explore the rest of the first floor and went down the right hallway. As I walked down the hall, I noticed that it contained several rooms; most appeared to be private quarters for the inhabitants, suggested by the leather and decayed straw. Eventually, I reached the last room at the end of the hall, which seemed to belong to whoever was in charge here.

In the room, there was an old desk made of stone, and in the back left corner, there was a wooden shelf. Filled with scrolls over to the right was a doorway that led to a slightly nicer sleeping setup with a melted candle on the ground next to it. I decided to read some of the scrolls to see what this place was about.

Carefully unrolling the one that looked to be in the best condition, the scroll was written in Greek. This scroll was going over how the head priest made a deal with the three most powerful dragons of the island to protect the light and darkness dragon's seal so the book of life it was guarding did not fall into the wrong hands. From what i can remember, that was a spell that could special summon a zombie monster from your graveyard by banishing a monster from you'r opponents graveyard so if it's guarding the real physical book, it must have some powerful spells in it.

The next scroll described how the people living in this temple communicated with the other temples in Egypt, Greece, and Italy by using the pond outside as a scrying mirror until the temple in Egypt was attacked and ransacked by an invading army. The next scroll states that the hidden temple in Italy was lost during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, while the one in Greece was lost due to a powerful spirit. If I have time, I should try to find these temples during the summer and winter breaks or after I finish Duel Academy. The rest of the scrolls were too brittle for me to unroll without destroying them, so I moved on to investigate the sarcophagus and then the left hall.

As I walked back into the entrance chamber, I made my way up to the sarcophagus and began to study the runes; these runes are unlike any I recognize. Then, I heard a voice behind me say, "Those are the letters we spirits use," the Cosmo Queen said as she pointed to them with her staff. "I will have to teach you how to write them," she added.

"I can read them now; it took a second, but the magic that lets me read all the human languages works on these ones." i said reading what it said

"It states that this holds the light and darkness dragon, along with the book of life; however, I will need to retrieve the key to unlock it from the main priest's tomb in the deposit area of the temple," I said as I began walking down the stairs in the left hall. Going down the stairs, I see a couple of skeletons covered in old cloth and dust; reaching the bottom, it splits into two different areas: on the right was a small mess hall; on the left was the hallway that leads further in. As I walked down the hall, I noticed statues of powerful spirits, including one resembling the blue-eyed white dragon that looked like a black luster soldier, although it was not a version I recognized.

As I walked past some of the rooms, I noticed that many appeared to be used for studying both science and magic; I recognized some of the rudimentary tools for science and alchemy, as well as several spell circles. Walking deeper i find the stairs that lead to the bariole chambers Upon entering the chamber, I saw the priest's coffin adorned with a pendant depicting a father on its exterior. As I removed the pendant, I felt a burst of magic sweep from the coffin.

As I walked up the stairs of the chamber, I heard a loud, thudding sound. As I reached the top, I saw that the statues had awakened to try and stop me, but I was able to dispatch them easily by using gravity to hold them down and blowing their heads off with a dragon's gunfire. "Man, I thought they would be stronger; no wonder all of the others were destroyed by mere normal humans, so they turned to spirits to do all the work." I said this aloud as I reached the sarcophagus.

Taking the pendant, I insert it into the opening on the top of the sarcophagus. As the lid slid open, some white light was shining before dying down, revealing the light and darkness dragon card, and next to it was an emerald green book. Putting both away for now, I will have to read it and decide what to do with everything I got tonight in the morning, i thought as i made my way back to the dorms.
