Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

RAE POV

Jerome's eyes widened in shock and he took a few steps back, startled by Alpha Kendrick's response and I almost let out a laugh at how he look.

The council members were even more shocked by Alpha Kendrick's nonchalance. Everyone turned to stare at him, giving him questioning stares but he made no move to answer anyone or explain further.

I rest his back on his chair, crossed his arms and stared bored at Jerome like everyone he just said wasn't the slightest bit shocking, like werewolves with moons bane weren't taboos and was just a normal thing.

I wasn't shock but touched. This might seem nothing for him because he could just kill me whenever he wanted and act like everything isn't a big deal but for me, things aren't that simple and everyday I worried about what will happen to me if I'm found out, that thought sometimes kept me up at night but seeing he act like having moons bane isn't a big deal and nothing to be scared or cautious of subconsciously lifts a little weight off my chest.

I saw Alpha Kendrick in a new light afterwards, like a halo suddenly appeared on top his head, glowing and shining down on his beautiful jet black hair, illuminating his fair skin and sharp jawline. He was a hundred time more handsome than Jerome and treated me even better.

The room remained in awkward silence for a while, with Jerome left speechless and unable to move but I saw Olivia nudge him from where she sat, he turned to her and she gestured for him to continue and Jerome suddenly found his voice again.

"Alpha Kendrick I understand how you must feel, I was once in that trap, but Rae is a beast, a creature that shouldn't exist otherwise it'll bring downfall upon us, I suggest Rae should be killed before her curse grows and we are unable to control it."

"Alpha Kendrick, I say all this out of concern for you and your pack but especially for you. How can I not show gratitude for the kindness you've shown me? If you'd return her to me, I'll definitely see to her demise so you don't have to get your hands dirty."

"Are you saying I'm incapable of taking care of my pack? I can't even handle the life of a little insect like her?" Alpha Kendrick argued back. I know this is how they truly see me but hearing him say it out loud still hurts and puts a damper on my already bad mood.

"You misunderstand me, Alpha Kendrick. All I'm trying to do is advice you base on personal experience and help the pack." Jerome looked to the other council members get their support which he received.

The council members nodded in agreement and turned to Alpha Kendrick to kill to Jerome.

"Alpha Kendrick, you must see to it that she's dead. As the Alpha, you must protect us all, someone with moons bane can't be overlooked like that." one of the council member interject and Alpha Kendrick growled in response.

"First of all, Jerome is the one who gave her to me. He's the one who brought this 'curse' as he called her to my pack." Alpha Kendrick leaned forward, eyes focused on Jerome, "Are you trying to destroy our pack? Why did you bring someone with moons bane to me?"

That question turned everyone's attention around, the council members turned to him disapprovingly and fired questions after questions at him and Jerome was at a lost of words trying to talk his way out of it. "She deceived me." He lied but they weren't buying and kept on bringing up other aspects of the situation.

The quarrel kept going on, questions cancelling questions and I wished Jerome had kept his mouth shut, my headache was growing because of the commotion.

I wasn't the only one pissed, I saw Alpha Kendrick increasing anger surge as the arguments ensued. He suddenly slammed his fist on the table, jolting everyone back and ending the argument in one action.

"I have had enough of this!" He yelled,

"She will not be killed." his voice was laced in finality, shutting anyone who wanted to say more. Nobody dared to disobey again.

The meeting ends there as Alpha Kendrick grabbed my arm and dragged me outside, growling loudly as we walked.

Outside, I decided to confront him, and ask why he confirmed I had moons bane. If he really wanted me by his side, he wouldn't. Although I was happy someone considered moons bane as nothing, I know full well the council members wouldn't and I won't hear the last of it now that so many people know about my secret.

Why couldn't he hide my secret from them and protect me? I thought he's going to be a little different from Jerome! I had my hopes up.

"Back at the meeting when Jerome when we entered, I saw the way Jerome was taunting you but you couldn't defend yourself openly, want to know why? Because you were scared he'll expose you and you will always be scared as long as he knows your secret."

Alpha Kendrick continued, "Your secrets are used as chains to bound you and you will never be free otherwise and why hide it when they'll find out later? The terms could be worse then."

"That's the part your little brain didn't think about. Face your fears when your stakes aren't as high, so your opponent has nothing on you."

I get what he's saying, but how can he truly understand how helpless I feel when his life isn't threatened by a simple slip up? I lived my life in fear knowing if a single werewolf knew my secret then I'd be burned alive. He doesn't even consider how I feel knowing the only person I trusted betrayed me and now I had to walk on pins and knives around him to ensure my secret isn't divulged despite all he has done to me.

It was also the reason I couldn't crash out at him when he publicly humiliated me. He was infuriating just like Jerome.

"I understand, I'll like to return to the bedroom now." I didn't wait for his reply and just walked away.
