Chapter 3 - Looking for Shelter

Having reached the conclusion that I had indeed reincarnated into the world of empires game, I looked around to see what I could do next. The meadow seemed to stretch forever. I got up and started walking in which direction I knew not. If this was indeed the world of empires then I should definitely come across a town or settlement sooner or later. Somehow or the other, I had to find shelter soon.

As I walked, I felt very unnaturally powerful. Like I wouldn't fail in whatever I was going to do next. After an hour of walking I still saw only meadows. I had to move faster. Like ten times more faster if I wanted to get anywhere. Being a long time player, I knew certain cheats that could help me get through the game quickly. After all, the majority of people in my world won in life by cheating. Why did I have to be any different? Also this was another world and I couldn't see another human being around me for miles. Who'd judge me if I used cheats?

Thinking thus, I looked for the chat window that I knew also doubled as a cheat activation window. I typed in a particular cheat that I knew would enable any character to move faster. It was called "XLR8#". You just needed to enter the number after the hash and you would be able to travel that many times faster. I decided that travelling five times faster ought to work. And so I typed in "XLR8#5" and pressed enter.

Immediately I felt a glow around me. I knew that the cheat had worked. I was soon dashing ahead at five times my normal speed. And I wasn't even getting tired. I suppose fatigue didn't really exist in this world. I dreaded thinking what life would have been like in my old world if fatigue never existed. Those above us would have worked us for eternity and we would never have lived.

Soon as the sun was setting, I found myself in the middle of a forest. That was odd. The game characters would get stuck if they existed between trees. And yet here I was, darting ahead. Was I some unnaturally exception to the game rules? I didn't know. I stopped just a few hundred feet as I came close to a clearing. I turned off the cheat by entering the cancel code "XLR8#N" and was back to my natural pace. Just ahead, I could see what looked like a stone wall.

I walked slowly ahead and found myself facing an abandoned and completely ruined village settlement.
