"Guy!" Sarutobi Hiruzen exclaimed in surprise and delight.
"Lord Third!" Might Guy cried, tears streaming down his face like noodles.
Though Guy was never the sharpest tool in the shed, he had the instincts of a wild beast. On the day Konoha fell, he was suddenly struck by a severe case of directional disorientation—a side effect of Enkō. Eventually, Kakashi coaxed him into coming to the City of Peace.
(T/N: Enkō: Randomly inflicts a permanent negative status effect on the target. This is Sasuke' mangekyo.)
At first, everything seemed fine. But one day, Kakashi vanished.
They all claimed he was on a top-secret mission, but Guy couldn't shake the feeling... Kakashi was gone for good.
So he waited. Waited and hoped. But there was no news. No sign. No word.
He didn't need anyone to coax or convince him. His love for Konoha still lingered in his heart. Eventually, Guy turned to Sarutobi Hiruzen on his own. He became one of the insiders who helped coordinate the assault from within, aiding the plan to breach the City of Peace.
When Sasuke and Itachi clashed in their titanic battle, many witnesses saw the colossal Susanoo. No formal signal for an attack had been given, but Hiruzen, relying on instinct and experience, realized this was the perfect moment to launch the final assault.
The Konoha shinobi lying in ambush moved in unison with the infiltrators inside the city. Their goal: a decapitation strike. If they could take out the daimyo, Sasuke, Neji, and the rest of the leadership, then Konoha could easily reclaim its place and rebuild itself within the city—rebirth through takeover.
What none of them expected... was that Uchiha Itachi would turn his blade on them mid-battle!
So you really lived up to your name, huh—Itachi, the Clan Slayer.
With those thick eyebrows and straight face... and you still turned traitor!
Sarutobi Hiruzen tried to awaken Itachi's conscience by invoking the burning Will of Fire—but Itachi replied with the searing flames of Amaterasu.
If he couldn't win over the mind, he would have to destroy the body.
Itachi didn't give Guy and Hiruzen much time to reminisce. Amaterasu surged toward them like a tidal wave of black flame.
As a pure taijutsu fighter, Might Guy had no real advantage against Itachi—unless he opened the Eight Gates. The moment the black fire rushed toward him, Guy broke out in a cold sweat. His instincts screamed—this flame would burn through his soul.
"Morning Peacock!" Guy roared without hesitation, opening the Sixth Gate. His chakra exploded outward, and fire burst from his fists as they ripped through the air. He narrowly evaded Amaterasu and struck back toward Itachi with blinding speed.
Whoosh!
Itachi burst apart into a cloud of crows with a shrill cry. In the middle of that eerie flurry, a shadow appeared directly in front of Guy, about to activate Tsukuyomi.
But Guy suddenly ducked his head and closed his eyes tight—he never forgot the golden rule when facing an Uchiha.
Looking down on Guy from above, Itachi's expression was filled with resistance, but his hand moved against his will. He stabbed a kunai toward Guy with deadly force.
Too fast.
Guy tried to dodge on instinct, but the blade still grazed his neck. Blood gushed from the wound like a burst pipe, uncontrollable and wild.
His face turned pale in an instant. His stamina plummeted. The very state of Eight Gates was accelerating his blood loss.
Itachi raised his kunai for the killing blow.
But at the last second, a cascade of long white hair blocked the strike—metal clashing against metal.
"What a pain..." Itachi muttered, sounding irritated. In the next instant, thick, sticky black flames erupted from nowhere and engulfed everything.
With his face painted in red markings and white hair flowing behind him, Jiraiya's expression was grim. He grabbed Guy and body-flickered away in a flash.
The ground beneath them transformed into a nightmarish swamp of Amaterasu.
Jiraiya passed Guy to the medics and immediately formed a hand seal—Sealing Technique: Flame Suppressant Seal!
This particular sealing jutsu was highly effective against Amaterasu—or rather, against all Fire Style techniques. The only downside was the long activation time. Thankfully, Sarutobi Hiruzen and the others had managed to keep Itachi occupied just long enough for Jiraiya to finish.
Until now, no ordinary shinobi had dared join the fight—they would've only gotten in the way or been incinerated by Amaterasu. But with the flames momentarily suppressed, their window had opened. Reinforcements closed in, attacking from all sides. Strength in numbers—they finally struck Itachi's true body.
There was no blood.
No sound of flesh being pierced.
Only crumbling soil and paper charms, instantly regenerating and patching over his wounds.
"Edo Tensei!" Hiruzen barked, eyes wide. Realization dawned in an instant. He turned to Jiraiya and shouted, "Uchiha Itachi is already dead. Someone is controlling his Edo Tensei body. Try to seal him—I'll go after the one pulling the strings!"
Only two people came to mind who could use Edo Tensei: Orochimaru... and Sasuke.
Somewhere along the way, those two had joined forces. Orochimaru had dabbled in countless forbidden jutsu, and it was entirely plausible that Sasuke had learned Edo Tensei from him.
According to intel from the Aburame clan's insects, Orochimaru had gone missing—but Sasuke was right where he'd always been: sitting beneath the cherry tree in his family's courtyard.
The place was a mess. Itachi's corpse lay discarded beneath another sakura tree.
Even without a guide, Hiruzen could've found him—Susanoo's earlier appearance had been far too obvious.
"Fire Style: Fire Dragon Flame Bullet!"
No words. No speeches. Sarutobi Hiruzen attacked the moment he saw him.
Words were useless against Sasuke. If talk-no-jutsu worked, Konoha wouldn't have been flattened by a Tailed Beast Bomb.
Sasuke narrowed his eyes.
With a flick of his hand, a dense wall of mist rose from the ground. The flames vanished the moment they touched it.
Hiruzen formed seals again, launching a flurry of dazzling jutsu. Corrosive mist and destructive ninjutsu clashed violently. The battlefield was reduced to ruins—craters, scorched earth, and shattered stone. Yet, the two cherry trees stood untouched.
Expressionless, eyes spinning with the Mangekyō, Sasuke sneered,
"All your flashy techniques and endless tricks... they can't hide how weak you truly are. How much longer can you keep this up?"
Breathing heavily, Sarutobi Hiruzen's eyes were dark and stormy.
"Uchiha Sasuke... You destroyed Konoha. You've manipulated the daimyo into tyranny. You're the true mastermind behind all of this, aren't you?"
He was ninety percent sure. But before he used his ultimate jutsu, he had to confirm it—just to make sure he wasn't about to annihilate the wrong person.
Sasuke smirked. "That's right. It's me. When you let Danzō wipe out the Uchiha, did you ever imagine this day would come?"
"That was all Danzō's doing!" Hiruzen roared, his voice cracking with rage. "I was innocent—Konoha is innocent!"
Then he suddenly laughed. "But it's too late now. You must pay the price for your crimes! You're far too dangerous. I won't let you keep poisoning this land!"
With that declaration, Hiruzen formed a strange hand sign. A pale phantom began to materialize from the void. A chilling aura of death spread through the air, freezing the very space around them.
The slowly solidifying spirit wore a white robe, a grotesque demon mask twisted into a grin. A dagger protruded from its mouth, and its lifeless eyes stared down at Hiruzen with an eerie stillness.
"Dead Demon Consuming Seal!"
