Eve POV:
I looked at Salem, trying to understand, but I couldn't. What was he talking about? I didn't know about any other mate. I had only ever been with Lucius, Drake and Marcus... and no one else.
"Salem…" I trailed off, unsure whether to laugh or scream. This was all too much. "What do you mean, I already have a mate?"
Salem's eyes flicked to me, and for the briefest moment, I saw a glimmer of something—knowledge, or perhaps pity—pass across them. He remained unfazed, coolly licking his paw as if he were casually discussing the weather.
"If you don't believe me," he continued, his voice laced with a subtle challenge, "check her neck."
My breath hitched at the words, and I felt my stomach twist. My hand immediately went to my neck, my fingers brushing the skin there in sudden panic. Could it be?
"No," I whispered, my voice shaking. "You're not talking about him…"
