Drake POV
"You can't be her mate, Marcus. Just tell me the truth. You just want her like you've wanted countless women over the years."
The words snapped out of me before I could stop them, sharp and accusing. My voice echoed down the empty corridor outside Rose's apartment, but I didn't care who heard.
We'd been kicked out by a cat. Yes. A cat. Rose's black little shadow, with its unsettling yellow eyes and eerie voice, had ordered us both to leave, and somehow we'd obeyed. Even now my skin crawled thinking about it. That wasn't just a cat. That was something else. But it didn't matter right now. What mattered was the idiot beside me.
I pushed Marcus, hard, my fingers curling around his expensive jacket. He stumbled back a step, but his expression didn't even flicker. Just that same smug, self-assured look that made me want to break his nose.
