Chapter 106 - CHAPTER 106

c106: Ape-like State

A quiet island lay surrounded by calm, mirror-like seas. Li Xu sat cross-legged on a large rock, deep in thought.

It had been a full month since he eliminated Android 21. With the threats of Cell and 21 resolved, Li Xu returned to a tranquil life. However, he now faced a new dilemma in his cultivation path.

Super Saiyan 3 marked the extreme peak of the standard Super Saiyan transformation. Beyond that, the next steps diverged into different branches Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan 4 each representing a unique evolution of Saiyan potential. Technically, neither was a direct continuation of the traditional Super Saiyan form.

Super Saiyan God was a transformation of divine ki and spiritual mastery, achieved through ritual and deep emotional resonance. It blended the incomplete understanding of godhood with Super Saiyan traits. In contrast, Super Saiyan 4, seen in Dragon Ball GT, was a primal path one that merged the power of the Great Ape (Ōzaru) with the Super Saiyan transformation, drawing directly from Saiyan biology and raw physical power.

Both transformations had distinct advantages. Neither could be declared strictly superior or inferior it depended on the user's path.

Li Xu now stood at this crossroads: Should he pursue Super Saiyan God or Super Saiyan 4 next? The choice weighed on him.

"I'll go with Super Saiyan 4 first. They're not mutually exclusive anyway I can explore Super Saiyan God later," Li Xu thought decisively.

He preferred tangible, physical growth over spiritual or ethereal development. The Godly path was subtle, requiring intense emotional control and resonance with divine ki—far more abstract than channeling raw power.

"To awaken Super Saiyan 4, I must first harness the Great Ape's power," Li Xu reasoned.

Although he lacked a tail a necessary requirement for a traditional Great Ape transformation there was precedent. In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the titular Saiyan utilized the Great Ape's latent power without transforming, tapping into a primal reservoir within his genetics. Li Xu could do the same.

The strength of the Ōzaru form slept dormant in his Saiyan DNA. It merely needed to be awakened.

"Buzz"

A deep hum filled the air as Li Xu channeled his ki with microscopic precision. He drew out the primal energy embedded in his cells—an echo of the Great Ape's might.

Suddenly, a violent aura surged from his body, wrapping around him in an intense red-and-gold storm.

"This power… it's wild," he muttered, furrowing his brow.

In this semi-ape state, his strength soared tenfold. It mirrored the raw amplification of a traditional Great Ape transformation. But the uncontrollable, feral instinct was stronger than anticipated even with his disciplined mind, he barely held on.

It was a reminder that even for someone of his caliber, channeling primal Saiyan energy was dangerous. The beast within sought control.

"So… fusing this with Super Saiyan won't be easy," Li Xu admitted with a sigh.

Still, there was no need to rush. Thanks to his earlier breakthroughs, he had shattered the temporal boundaries of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Now, he could enter and train there indefinitely without limitation.

The only concern now was lifespan. While Saiyans retained youthful strength into their mid-years, their lifespans weren't vastly longer than Earthlings. Spending decades training inside a time-dilated dimension could cost him everything if he didn't ascend to godhood soon enough.

"Li Xu, what's going on with you?"

A gentle yet assertive voice echoed behind him. It wasn't Bulma—it was Android 18.

After Bulma repaired Android 16, both 16 and 17 had left. But 18 had chosen to stay, quietly settling on a different part of the island.

"What are you doing here?" Li Xu asked, his tone calm but slightly surprised.

"I sensed something strange. Your ki—it felt unstable," 18 replied. The atmosphere around him was still thick with the primal, chaotic force of the Great Ape, triggering her concern.

"I'm fine. Just training," Li Xu answered.

At least for now, he had no deeper intentions regarding 18. His focus was elsewhere for now.

"You're already so strong why do you still push yourself so hard in training?" Android 18 asked, floating lazily nearby. Over the past few months, she had made the island her new base and had observed Li Xu's daily life. To her surprise, most of it was spent deep in meditation or extreme physical training.

"There are still plenty of fighters stronger than me. Just think about those two we encountered last time—I didn't have the slightest confidence I could defeat them," Li Xu replied with a shake of his head, referring to Towa and Mira from the Dark Demon Realm. Their abilities, particularly their manipulation of time and dark energy, made them terrifying opponents.

"Could you teach me how to train, then?" 18 asked, her voice a little more serious now.

"Our paths are different. Your power is mechanical, enhanced through cybernetics and infinite energy, while mine follows a biological and spiritual route. I can't offer you anything meaningful in terms of training," Li Xu replied evenly.

"Hmph. What a guy no sense of subtlety at all," she huffed, scowling slightly before taking off into the sky.

Li Xu watched her leave and sighed, smiling wryly. He wasn't oblivious to what 18 was implying but the more expectations he encouraged, the more pain he would cause her later.

In the blink of an eye, three more months passed.

Despite his constant efforts, Li Xu's training had hit a bottleneck. While combining the Great Ape's primal might with the Super Saiyan form was theoretically straightforward, executing it in practice was far from easy. The resulting power was too wild feral, even and maintaining clarity of mind was nearly impossible.

He even attempted to enter the Golden Ōzaru state, mirroring how Vegeta did in Dragon Ball GT, using artificial Blutz Waves. But once the transformation completed, he instantly lost control. Had he attempted it on Earth, it might have resulted in planetary devastation.

"I need to improve my base combat power first. If the foundation isn't solid, there's no way I'll ever master this hybrid form," Li Xu muttered to himself.

Although he hadn't yet broken through to Super Saiyan 4, Li Xu had increased his base combat power by a full 100 million in the past few months—an incredible pace that rivaled even post-Zenkai Vegeta's growth on Namek.

That day, while Li Xu was meditating on the cliffside, Goku and Vegeta descended from the sky.

"Li Xu! Do you know a good place where we can train? Earth's gravity is just too weak for us now," Goku asked eagerly. His current strength had hit a plateau, and he was itching to break through.

"Actually, I know someone who could help you improve—but whether he agrees to train you or not is another matter," Li Xu replied, glancing at the two Saiyans.

"Who is it?" Goku asked, his eyes gleaming with curiosity.

"I'll make contact for you. But success will depend on your own efforts," Li Xu said, already reaching for his communicator.

"Whis!"

In the Gods of Destruction Realm, Whis was lazily trimming roses with his staff when a sudden glow emanated from its tip.

"Oh? Li Xu, do you have more Earth delicacies for me today?" Whis asked with an amused chuckle.

"I've got a feast waiting. Interested?" Li Xu smiled knowingly. If there was one sure way to entice Whis, it was through gourmet food.

"Delighted! I'll be right there!" Whis beamed, practically floating with anticipation. The promise of Earth's cuisine never failed to excite him.

"Great. I'll prepare the dishes and wait," Li Xu said, cutting the link.

"Li Xu… is this Whis guy really that strong?" Goku asked curiously.

"If he wanted to defeat me, he could do it in one move," Li Xu answered with a faint smile. Though his own strength had grown dramatically, Whis—an angelic being who trained the God of Destruction Beerus—remained on a completely different level. Not even Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken Goku or Ultra Ego Vegeta could push him.

Hearing that, Goku and Vegeta exchanged glances. A spark lit in their eyes—not of fear, but of pure Saiyan excitement.
