In less than half an hour, a beam of divine light shimmered in the sky as Whis descended gracefully before everyone. During that short time, Li Xu had prepared a generous feast. While none of the food was cooked by him personally, the dishes were a collection of Earth's finest delicacies, carefully selected to appeal to Whis's well-known gourmet tastes.
"Mmm, looks delightful!" Whis's eyes sparkled as he scanned the banquet table. Without hesitation, he floated over and began sampling the various dishes.
"The flavors are certainly different from what I've had at Capsule Corp..." Whis commented between bites, "but these are quite enjoyable in their own right."
"Whis, I didn't summon you just to eat. I need a favor," Li Xu said, his tone calm but direct.
"Oh? What sort of favor?" Whis asked, not pausing in his feast, his attention still mostly on a perfectly grilled skewer of marinated meat.
"I want you to train these two," Li Xu gestured toward Goku and Vegeta, who stood silently, both eager but trying not to seem desperate.
"You know, Li Xu, I only serve Lord Beerus. Making an exception to train you was already bending the rules," Whis replied casually, though his tone carried a hint of warning.
The mention of Beerus, the God of Destruction, made Vegeta's expression shift. He was no stranger to the name. His pride as the Saiyan Prince flared training under someone so closely tied to Beerus could be the opportunity he'd been chasing.
"I've already brought you here to them. Whether you choose to guide them or not, I leave that to you. I've done what I can," Li Xu said, stepping back. He wasn't going to interfere beyond this point. Helping them get this far was already an act of goodwill, far beyond obligation.
"Whis, my name's Son Goku. Please teach us!" Goku said sincerely, bowing with uncommon formality. His Saiyan instincts sensed how far beyond them Whis was.
"Mr. Whis, if you agree to train us, I'll personally make sure you receive dishes even better than this," Vegeta added, his pride momentarily set aside for a larger goal: surpassing Li Xu.
"Hmm… A wide array of gourmet meals, you say?" Whis's expression brightened. "That's certainly a tempting proposal."
"And that's not all! I can find flavors you've never tasted before," Vegeta added quickly, sensing an opening.
"Well then, you've convinced me," Whis chuckled. "I'll teach you."
"Thank you, Mr. Whis!" Vegeta said, visibly excited despite himself. For a warrior who had always carved his own path, this was a huge moment.
"Let's begin right now!" Goku added, his fighting spirit bubbling. The thought of closing the gap with Li Xu energized him more than anything.
"Now, now, Son Goku. It's quite rude to interrupt someone while they're eating. Patience. Let me finish," Whis said, savoring another bite of roasted duck.
With no other choice, Goku and Vegeta stood back and waited in silence.
Roughly half an hour later, Whis finally finished the meal, dabbing the corners of his mouth with a handkerchief, completely satisfied.
"So, can we start now?" Goku asked again, barely containing himself.
"Yes. Follow me to the world of the Gods of Destruction," Whis nodded. Despite his playful demeanor, Whis saw real potential in both Saiyans. Their drive to grow stronger had once helped them unlock the powers of Super Saiyan God and beyond training them was no waste of time.
"Li Xu, I'll be taking my leave now," Whis said, tapping his scepter lightly on the ground.
A column of divine light enveloped Whis, Goku, and Vegeta. With a flash, the three soared upward into the sky, vanishing into the realm of the Gods a place where time flowed differently, and power was forged in silence and cosmic discipline.
After Whis's guidance, the power levels of Son Goku and Vegeta were likely to soar. Li Xu understood this deeply and silently reminded himself that he, too, had to intensify his own training regimen.
Three months passed in the blink of an eye.
During this time, Li Xu maintained a low profile and remained on Earth, focusing entirely on cultivation.
Inside the gravity chamber, the display read "800x gravity". This was the latest training facility designed by Bulma, incorporating cutting-edge technology. The chamber could now simulate gravity up to 1,000 times Earth's, a feat previously only manageable by elite Saiyans like Goku and Vegeta.
The immense pressure compressed the air into a crimson haze. Dressed in a weighted gravity suit similar to those used by Vegeta during his early training with Dr. Brief, Li Xu pushed himself with basic movements squats, punches, kicks each one grinding against the resistance. His entire outfit was soaked through, and sweat poured from his body like a river.
"Haaah…"
Li Xu let out a deep breath, wiping the sweat from his brow as he stood upright, his muscles aching.
"Bzzzt!"
Suddenly, the Time Ring on his finger shimmered with energy. An ethereal projection of Kane, a key figure in the Time Patrol, materialized before him.
"Kane? What's going on?" Li Xu asked, instantly alert.
"We have a serious problem Mechikabura has broken free from his seal," Kane said, his voice laced with urgency.
Li Xu's expression darkened. He hadn't expected the ancient demon to escape so soon. His current combat strength, even after reaching beyond 1.7 billion, was still leagues below that of a being like Mechikabura.
"Do you have a strategy to stop him?" Li Xu asked, mind racing.
"Although he's free, he hasn't regained his full power yet. So there's no need to panic for now," Kane replied.
"Then why contact me?" Li Xu pressed, his instincts telling him there was more.
"Li Xu, have you heard of the Dark Dragon God?" Kane asked instead of answering directly.
"I haven't," Li Xu said honestly. Though a fan of Dragon Ball lore, he was only familiar with Super Shenron and Dragon God Salama from Super and extended manga content.
"The Dark Dragon God is the corrupted antithesis of Dragon God Salama, born from the imbalance in the cosmic wish cycle. And his power, terrifyingly, surpasses even Salama's," Kane explained gravely.
"What does that have to do with Mechikabura?" Li Xu asked, still trying to connect the dots.
"Long ago, the Dark Dragon God forged a set of Dark Dragon Balls, far more powerful and chaotic than the Super Dragon Balls made by Salama. Mechikabura seeks them to reclaim his full demonic might," Kane revealed.
"You want me to stop him from collecting them?" Li Xu asked, his expression tightening.
He remembered obscure references from Dragon Ball Heroes and time-patrol-themed chapters, where the Dark Dragon Balls, unlike their counterparts, were said to have been scattered across various timelines and dimensions, corrupting the very fabric of time.
"Exactly," Kane nodded.
"But even if Mechikabura is weakened, I still can't match him in raw power," Li Xu said grimly. He knew from historical data that Mechikabura at his peak rivaled if not surpassed Angels, placing him dangerously high in the cosmic hierarchy.
"Which is why he won't act openly yet. Every Universe has its own Angel, and if even one of them engages, he'll be forced into retreat," Kane replied. "His current strategy is stealth."
"Where are the Dark Dragon Balls now?" Li Xu asked. His heart was heavy, knowing full well the danger ahead. Even if Mechikabura remained in hiding, his Demon Gods like Putine and Gravy were powerful enough on their own.
"They've been scattered across divergent timelines. Their chaotic energy prevents normal tracking. Ironically, only the Dark Dragon Balls themselves can lead one to each other," Kane said.
"Then where's the Dark Dragon God?" Li Xu asked, sensing that this story went far deeper than he had imagined.
"He's been sealed away in the Dimensional Rift, through the combined might of Zalama, the Dragon God; the Grand Minister of Time what you might call Lord Shiwang; and... Grand Zeno's predecessor, known only as Great Zeno," Kane answered, his voice reverent.
"Great Zeno?" Li Xu echoed in confusion.
He was familiar with Zeno, the current omni-king who could erase entire universes on a whim. But the existence of a predecessor was a revelation.
"Yes. Great Zeno was the father of the present Zeno. He, along with Salama and Shiwang, fought and sealed the Dark Dragon God. In that battle, Great Zeno sacrificed himself, and his essence was passed to the Zeno you know," Kane explained.
"That's incredible…" Li Xu muttered, stunned. The deeper mysteries of the multiverse were far more profound than he had imagined.
"What happened to Salama and Lord Shiwang?" Li Xu asked.
"Both were critically injured in that battle. Since then, they've gone into seclusion to recover. They haven't reemerged since the sealing," Kane said solemnly.
"You weren't supposed to know any of this," he added. "Only those with a certain cosmic clearance are told. But now that you're involved, I'm trusting you. Don't reveal this to anyone."
