c108: The First Time-Space Mission
"Yeah," Li Xu nodded. He had a clear understanding of his current capabilities. While he had made significant progress, compared to those who dwell in the realm of the gods, there was still a massive gap in power.
"Since the Dark Dragon God has been sealed, and no one knows the precise location of the Dark Dragon Balls, what's there to worry about?" Li Xu asked logically.
"I didn't say they were easy to find," Kane replied. "But one of the Dark Dragon Balls has recently emerged. I want you to retrieve it before it falls into the hands of the Demon Gods from the Dark Demon Realm."
"Where is this Dark Dragon Ball located?" Li Xu asked curiously.
"In an alternate timeline. I'll take you there shortly," Kane answered.
At Li Xu's current level, even with mastery of some time-space principles, he lacked the ability to travel across parallel timelines or alternate histories unaided. He'd have to rely on Kane and the Time Patrol's authority.
"All right," Li Xu agreed.
"I'll be there soon," Kane said.
Roughly ten minutes later, Kane materialized in front of Li Xu with a shimmer of dimensional light.
"Since you came to Earth anyway, why didn't you just talk to me in person instead of contacting me through the Time Ring?" Li Xu complained with a hint of teasing.
"I rushed here the moment I got news of the Dark Dragon Ball," Kane said, slightly irritated. "I used the ring to save time while traveling. Efficient communication, okay?" She planted her fists on her hips, puffing up in frustration a gesture that made her look adorably indignant.
Li Xu couldn't help but smile. He knew Kane could shift into her true adult form tall, graceful, and astonishingly beautiful but her childlike default appearance was hard to take seriously.
Still, he resisted the urge to pinch her cheeks. If he did, she'd definitely blow up at him and he'd be the one paying the price.
"There's only me acting as a reserve Time Patrol member. Isn't that cutting it a little close?" Li Xu asked. "Shouldn't you recruit a few more elites to back me up?"
"We'll talk about reinforcements later. For now, focus on the mission," Kane replied firmly.
"How do I return afterward?" Li Xu asked, knowing he couldn't warp through timelines on his own.
"If you retrieve the Dark Dragon Ball, I'll come to pick you up. If you're in immediate danger, channel the space-time power through your Time Ring. It will alert us instantly," Kane instructed.
"Got it," Li Xu nodded.
With a swift motion, Kane waved her hand, tearing open a swirling rift in space-time. A strong vacuum-like pull yanked Li Xu inside.
The world spun violently. After a few seconds of dizzying motion, he stabilized and opened his eyes to find himself in an entirely different reality another era, another version of history.
"Ding-dong! New Mission Unlocked:
Objective Complete your first time-space patrol assignment. Retrieve the Dark Dragon Ball.
Reward Ancient Saiyan Bloodline Plugin!"
The system's cold mechanical voice echoed in Li Xu's mind.
"So the mission has triggered," Li Xu murmured. "That means this Dragon Ball must be secured at all costs."
Originally, he figured he could retreat if the enemies were too strong. After all, a single Dark Dragon Ball was useless by itself; only all seven could summon the corrupted dragon. But now, the mission had officially begun and the reward was too valuable to ignore.
The Ancient Saiyan bloodline was even more potent than the Legendary Super Saiyan variant wielded by Broly. With it, Li Xu's growth rate in power and transformation potential would skyrocket.
"Namek?"
Li Xu scanned the landscape. Green skies, blue grass, and massive white stone outcroppings it could only be Planet Namek.
"What intense, twisted ki...!"
Li Xu sensed two powerful auras clashing. One was pure and burning, the other was cold, sinister, and evil. The darker ki felt vaguely familiar he had encountered it before.
Without wasting time, he activated Instant Transmission, locking onto the nearest power signatures.
"Frieza. Son Goku…"
Li Xu landed nearby and spotted the two figures, mid-battle. But this wasn't the Frieza and Goku he knew from his own timeline. These were their counterparts in this alternate universe, locked in a deadly conflict one from an entirely different space-time stream.
At this moment, Frieza was in his final form.his third major transformation.gripping Son Goku by the neck as Goku struggled in his Super Saiyan state, his golden aura violently clashing with Frieza's own.
"How did Son Goku's power increase so much in this timeline?" Li Xu frowned deeply.
In this altered universe one where his own actions had not caused a butterfly effect Frieza's power level should have capped around 120 million, far below Goku's Super Saiyan might during the battle on Namek.
"Huh? A Dark Dragon Ball?" Li Xu suddenly noticed a strange object embedded in Frieza's chest. It looked like a standard Dragon Ball, but the star inside was black, surrounded by a dark aura it was unmistakably corrupted by dark demonic energy.
Swish!
Li Xu vanished and reappeared instantly in front of Frieza, delivering a powerful roundhouse kick. Frieza was sent flying, crashing through a towering stone formation which crumbled into debris and buried him underneath.
"Who are you?" Son Goku asked warily, stunned by Li Xu's sudden appearance and intervention.
"Just like you, I'm a Saiyan," Li Xu replied calmly, offering a smile.
"What?!"
Before Goku could react, Frieza roared, erupting with a renewed and unstable aura that disintegrated the rubble. His power had clearly been enhanced beyond its natural limit.
"That explains it, he's drawing power directly from the Dark Dragon Ball," Li Xu realized. The corrupted orb on Frieza's chest was feeding him a surge of demonic ki, distorting his natural power levels.
"Filthy insect!" Frieza howled and charged Li Xu with a vicious snarl.
"Tch." Li Xu narrowed his eyes and moved with a blur. Despite the power boost, this Frieza was still far weaker than the golden version in Li Xu's native timeline.
Boom!
As Frieza lunged, Li Xu vanished again. Before Frieza could react, Li Xu's fist drove deep into his gut, sending a shockwave through his body.
"He's so fast!" Son Goku exclaimed, eyes wide with amazement. He hadn't been able to track Li Xu's movements at all.
Goku had thought this Frieza was already impressive, but this new Saiyan Li Xu.had just eclipsed them both with effortless precision.
"I said, he's my opponent!" Goku shouted, dashing forward. He wasn't done fighting Frieza, not yet.
"I'll leave him to you once I finish my mission," Li Xu replied casually and with a swift strike, he knocked Goku away, sending him tumbling through the air.
"He's crazy strong!" Goku grunted, stabilizing himself mid-air after being knocked back a long distance.
"This mission might be easier than I expected," Li Xu thought to himself.
Dark Frieza's boosted power was somewhere in the high hundreds of millions, but it was still manageable Li Xu hadn't even needed to transform. But he reminded himself that the real threat wasn't this corrupted version of Frieza, but the Dark Demon Realm's agents who lurked behind the scenes.
"I'd better secure the Dark Dragon Ball first," Li Xu resolved.
With a burst of speed, Li Xu appeared in front of Frieza again just as the tyrant was recovering and without giving him time to react, Li Xu tore the corrupted Dragon Ball from his chest with a sharp, clean motion.
"Got it!" Li Xu grinned. The mission had gone smoother than anticipated almost too smooth.
But just as he prepared to retreat, a searing wave of energy surged toward him from the sky. Li Xu's instincts flared. His hair stood on end as he instantly ascended to Super Saiyan 3, channeling temporal ki to narrowly evade the blast.
BOOM!
The massive energy sphere exploded against a distant mountain, obliterating it in a deafening shockwave and reducing it to a flat crater.
"We meet again, Time Patrol scum. Prepare yourself!" came a sharp, cold female voice.
Li Xu turned, eyes narrowing. The source was unmistakable: Towa, the brilliant dark sorceress, and Mira, her artificial Saiyan-demon hybrid creation. He had encountered them before, and their presence confirmed that this mission was no coincidence.
"You again. Dark Demon Realm agents, huh?" Li Xu said with a smirk, holding up the corrupted Dragon Ball. "You're a little too late this time."
