"Tonight!?"

Adina's heart dropped at the words. She stared at Khaos, certain she had heard him wrong.

Khaos stood at the head of the table, studying the map spread before them. They'd arrived back at the house hours ago, and Adina had managed to conceal her excitement after what happened at the cave.

But now, not only was her happiness cut short—she'd been shocked so hard it felt like a dream.

"Yes. We leave before midnight. It'll take us three hours to arrive at the Obsidian palace." His finger traced the marked route toward Obsidian.

Adina's blood ran cold.

She had told Virelya two days. He was going to attack in two days' time, but now… tonight? Thorne and the people would be underprepared. It would be an ambush in which plenty of her people would die—and for what?

"Tell me, dear child. Are you surprised?" Khaos asked.

Adina quickly lowered her gaze. "No, Father. No one can question you, and you know best. I only thought the attack was planned for later."
