Chapter 12 - The One With The Candy hearts

Monica: You cannot do this.

Rachel: Do what, do what?

Monica: Roger wants to take her out tomorrow night.

Rachel:No! Phoebes! Don't you remember why you dumped the guy?

Phoebe: 'Cause he was creepy, and mean, and a little frightening...(beat)Alright, still, it's nice to have a date on Valentine's Day!

Monica: But Phoebe, you can go out with a creepy guy any night of the year. I know I do.

Rachel: Well, what are you guys doing tomorrow night?

Roy: I have a date with my girlfriend, Lisa.

Joey: Actually, tomorrow night kinda depends on how tonight goes.

Chandler: Oh, uh, listen, about tonight...

Joey: No, no, no, don't you dare bail on me. The only reason she's going out with me is because I said I could bring a friend for her friend.

Chandler: Yes, I know, but her friend sounds like such a—

Joey: Pathetic mess? I know, but—come on, man, she's needy, she's vulnerable. I'm thinkin'... cha-ching!(Rachel throws a roll at Joey. He picks it up and eats it.)

Joey: Thanks. Look, you haven't been out with a woman since Janice. You're doing this.

Ross: (enters) Hi. She said yes.

Chandler:Yes! Way to go, man!(Chandler and Ross hug. Something crunches in Ross's shirt pocket.)

Chandler: Still got the egg, huh?

[ The docks. The air smells of salt and sea.]

Roy is guiding Lisa carefully, her eyes covered with a cloth.

Lisa: [wrinkling her nose] What is that smell? Are we at the docks, Roy?

Roy: [in a playful British accent] Yes, my lovely lady.

Lisa: [laughs] Stop it. That accent does not suit you, Roy.

[Roy chuckles and gently removes the blindfold from Lisa's eyes. A beautiful ferry is docked in front of them, gently rocking.]

Lisa: [gasping] Wow, Roy. This is amazing!

Roy: What's a man to do but please his lady—with a touch of wealth?

Lisa: [teasing] If you hadn't delivered such a cheesy line, this would've been perfect.

Roy: [mock wounded] Seems you don't appreciate the lines I crafted with all my passion!

Lisa: [laughing] I know all your lines, Roy. Phoebe told me everything.

Roy: [half-shocked] You two were scheming behind my back?

Lisa: [grinning] Okay, okay—let's just get on the ferry.

Roy: There will be surprises...

Lisa: [smiling sweetly] Can't wait.

[ On the ferry, now gliding silently in the middle of the water. The city fades into the distance.]

Lisa: [watching the skyline] This is nice. Like we're drifting away from all our problems.

[She turns to look at Roy.]

Roy: That's exactly why I brought you here. You've been overworking—with your art, with everything.

Roy comes up from behind and gently hugs Lisa. Lisa turns to face him and kisses him softly.

Lisa: [smiling sweetly] Thank you, Roy.

Roy: It's okay, Lisa. You can always count on me.

Lisa: I have a Valentine's Day present for you.

Roy: [excitedly] Really? Show me!

[Lisa pulls out two carefully wrapped paintings. She hands the first one to Roy.]

[The first painting is a warm portrait of Roy—smiling, confident, surrounded by light tones that reflect comfort and hope.]

Roy: This is beautiful. I'm hanging this in the coffee shop the moment we get back.

[Then he sees the second painting. It's a more muted, emotional piece: a young boy—clearly Roy as a child, standing in the foreground. Behind him, a man and a woman hold his shoulders gently. Their figures are detailed, but their faces are left blank, soft, undefined, as if lost to time.]

[Roy goes quiet. He stares at the painting. His voice trembles.]

Roy: Lisa… what is this?

Lisa: You always said you couldn't remember your parents' faces. I thought… maybe this way, you could imagine them. Not with detail, but with love. Without pressure to remember, just feel them.

[Roy, now emotional, pulls her into a tight embrace. His voice shakes.]

Roy: I love you, Lisa.

[He touches his forehead gently to hers.]

Lisa: I love you, too, Roy.

[They close the distance and share a deep, tender kiss, full of warmth .]

[ Lisa grins playfully to lighten the moment.]

Lisa: Now, big boy… where's my present?

[Roy laughs, kisses her nose, and heads inside the cabin. He returns with three gifts in hand.]

Roy: Alright, first up—this!

[He hands her a beautifully wrapped box.]

Roy: New painting tools—high-end brushes, pigments, and canvas panels. Thought you might like a fresh start.

[Lisa beams.]

Roy: Second… this.

He gives her an envelope. Lisa opens it, curious. Her eyes widen.]

Lisa: A tutor session with... Peter Doig?!

Roy: Yep. The man himself. You said his work made you want to paint in the first place. Thought it was time you met your hero.

[Lisa is speechless, clearly overwhelmed.]

Roy: And finally…

[He reveals a necklace—delicate, elegant, with pearls and a blue gemstone that matches the color of Lisa's eyes.]

Roy: For the girl with ocean eyes.

Lisa: Thank you, Roy. This is… perfect.

Roy: Now turn around. I will put it on your neck.

[Lisa turns and says:]

Lisa: Thank you.

His fingers linger a second too long. Then, without warning, he leans in and plants a soft, lingering kiss on her neck.

Lisa shivers slightly, closing her eyes at the sensation.

LISA(softly)That's not fair…

Roy turns her around, gently but deliberately. Their eyes meet—close, unspoken heat building in the quiet.

He doesn't say anything. He just kisses her—slow at first, then deeper, more intense. She kisses back, hands sliding up around his neck, drawing him closer as if she couldn't stand any distance between them.

Roy's hands move around her waist, pulling her tightly against him. In one fluid motion, he lifts her, and Lisa instinctively wraps her legs around his waist.

Their lips never part as her hands cradle his face, fingertips brushing against his jaw, lost in the moment. It's as if the world has disappeared—nothing left but them, the moonlight dancing on the water.

Roy leans back briefly and asks, "Where were you until now?" Lisa responds, "Finding you." They laugh and continue with renewed passion, their tongues dancing in each other's mouths. Soon, the passion turns into dominance, and Roy takes Lisa to the cabin and throws her on the bed. Lisa pulls Roy onto her, leaving his mouth as important as oxygen. Roy's hands roam her body as they search for something far more important than treasure. They find twin treasures, which he caresses until they poke and start playing roughly with them.

And the dominance continued as the night unfolded, a blur of passion and intimacy that neither of them wanted to end.

NEXT DAY HALLWAY OUTSIDE MONICA AND RACHEL'S APARTMENT. CHANDLER IS TRYING TO GET JANICE OUT OF HIS APARTMENT.

Janice: Oh, I miss you already. Can you believe this happened?

Chandler: No... no! And yet, it did. Good-bye, Janice.

Janice:Kiss me!(She kisses him just as Monica comes out to get the newspaper.)

Monica: Oh, Chandler, sorry—(She sees Janice and recoils slightly.)

Monica: Ohhh, Chandler... sorry. Hey, Janice.

Janice: Hi, Monica!

Chandler: Okay, well, this was very special.

Monica: Rache! Come see who's out here!

(Rachel enters from their apartment.)

Rachel: Oh my god. Janice, hi!

Chandler:Janice is gonna go away now.

Monica: I'll be right back.

(Joey and Roy enter from the stairs.)

Rachel: Oh, Joey, look who it is.

Joey (in disbelief): Whoa.

Chandler: Oh, good, Joey's home now.

Janice: This is so fun. This is like a reunion in the hall.

(Monica comes out with her cordless phone. Roy walks in behind Joey)

Monica: Oh, hi, Ross. Yeah. There's someone I want you to say hi to. (to Chandler) He just happened to call.

Janice: Hi, Ross. Yes, it's me. How did you know? (She laughs obnoxiously.)

Roy (leans toward Joey, whispering): why does her laugh make me want to jump out the window?

Joey (whispering back): That's Janice. You'll get used to it... or you won't.

Roy (nods slowly): So... we just let this happen?

Chandler (sighs): Welcome to my nightmare.

[Scene: Central Perk. Chandler, Joey, and Roy are sitting on the couch. Chandler is clearly stressed, holding a coffee cup. Roy is flipping through a comic book.]

Chandler: How can I dump this woman on Valentine's Day?

Joey: I don't know. You dumped her on New Year's.

Roy (without looking up): Is Arbor Day taken? You're working your way through the calendar.

Chandler (sarcastic): Oh, Maybe next time, I'll do it on her Birthday and Thanksgiving

Roy (grinning): I'm just saying, you might wanna give her a heads-up before Thanksgiving.

Joey (laughing): Yeah, so she doesn't bring pie and heartbreak.

Chandler: Oh, man. In my next life, I'm coming back as a toilet brush.

Roy: At least then you'd be used to cleaning up messes.

Chandler : Fuck, Roy!

(JANICE ENTERS.)

Janice: Hello, funny Valentine.

Chandler: Hi, Just Janice.

Janice: Hello, Joey — our little matchmaker. I could just kiss you all over, and I'm gonna!

(Janice starts kissing Joey all over his face. Chandler grins.)

Joey(to Chandler, deadpan): If you don't do it, I will.

Roy: Yes, Joey, just do it . before she either laughs or cries.

Janice: I brought you something.

Chandler: Is it loaded?(He looks at the gift)Oh... little candy hearts. (Reading one) "Chan and Jan Forever."

Janice: I had them made special.

Chandler: Okay, Janice. Janice. Hey, Janice — look, there's no easy way for me to say this.At least, no new way for me to say this.I just don't think things are gonna work out.

Janice: That's fine.

Chandler:(surprised) It is?

Janice: Mmm-hmm. Because I know this isn't the end.

Chandler: Oh no — you see, actually... it is.

Janice: No, it isn't. Because you won't let that happen. Don't you get it yet?You love me, Chandler Bing.

Chandler: Oh no I don't.

Janice: Then ask yourself this: Why do you think we keep ending up together?New Year's? Who invited who?Valentine's? Who asked who into whose bed?

Chandler: I did, but—

Janice: You seek me out. Something deep in your soul calls out to me, like a foghorn."Janice... Janice..."You want me. You need me.You can't live without me.And you know it — you just don't know you know it.

(She kisses him passionately, then walks away.)

Chandler:(softly, to himself) Call me...

Joey and Roy both give Chandler a deadpan stare as he doesn't break up with Janice.

Roy: "A toilet brush would be disappointed in you right now."

Joey: "Yeah, I don't think you'll ever get a second chance at rebirth after this."

 Central Perk, late afternoon

Roy: (takes a sip of his coffee, glancing at the two filmmakers) So, how's everything going? Have you finalized the script yet?

Daniel: (nodding with a smile) Yeah, it's all set. We've finalized the script—everything's in place now, except for a few last details. Almost all the crew's confirmed, too. We're just waiting on the leads now.

Eduardo: (leaning forward) Yeah, we've got the crew locked in. It's just the three lead roles that need to be filled.

Roy: (raising an eyebrow, curious) Three leads? That's quite a mix. What kind of roles are we talking about?

Daniel: Well, there's one female lead and two male leads. It's a bit of a unique dynamic. (hands Roy a copy of the finalized script) Here's the script, if you want to take a look.

Roy: (flipping through the pages) Looks good. So, what's the plan for casting the leads? I'm guessing Joey's going to be one of them?

Eduardo: (glances at Daniel) Actually, we're going to have Joey audition for whatever part he likes. We think he'll be great, but... there's a catch.

Roy: (raises an eyebrow) What's the catch?

Daniel: (leaning back) Well, we're actually looking to cast college students for the other two roles. We can't go with actors who have too much experience for this project—it's more about finding fresh talent, you know? We want a certain raw energy.

Roy: (nodding slowly) Ah, I see. Makes sense. So, Joey can audition, but the other two roles are going to be less experienced actors?

Eduardo: Exactly. We thought Joey would bring the experience, but for the others, we're going with a younger vibe. It's a risk, but we're feeling good about it.

Roy: (thinking for a moment) Alright, I get that. And I've got an idea for marketing this thing, but... I think we'll have to wait until production's done before we can roll it out properly.

Daniel: (nodding enthusiastically) We're open to ideas, Roy. Let's chat more about that once everything's in motion.

Roy: (grinning) You've got it. But for now, I think you've got everything lined up. Let me know when the auditions are—Joey will be there.

Eduardo: (smiling) You can count on it. Thanks, Roy.

Roy: (leaning back, giving a casual smile) No problem. Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.

A/N: I know this chapter's a bit shorter than the last one, but the next is going to be another big one. I just didn't find anything that fit naturally in between.
